View Full Version : Has jabu closed?
chinaski 19-02-2008, 09:24 AM Hi
I was hoping to book a table for this Sunday but the answering machine stated that they were closed for further notice. I know closure has been in the pipeline. Does anyone know anything more?
DelMonte 20-02-2008, 12:25 AM It was shut on Sunday night when we were hoping to go - be a great shame if it has closed for good :( Was a really good place to eat, offering something a bit different - the only downside was the Chinese MTV constantly playing!:hihi:
lexatron 21-02-2008, 10:25 PM Sadly it has closed. I used to go in there regularly for dumplings and I went in 2 weeks ago and they told me they were closing. They took my number though, as they are thinking of doing some deliveries to regulars!
I'm so sad it has closed, those dumplings kept me alive!
sophiec1979 22-02-2008, 09:52 AM as already said...yup. :(
i tried to book a table last tuesday and got the answerphone message saying they were shut till further notice.
i cant believe it took me sooooo long to actually haul my ass there, i only made it 2 weeks ago because a friend from home came to visit and we wanted a meal reminiscent of what we'd eaten in chengdu many years ago.
a gem discovered too late as it was absolutely superb!
im gutted.

ps. lexatron, you can buy the type of dumplings they sold from the frozen section at the chinese supermarket on matilda street (opposite plug). obviously, theyre not quite as good, but theyre better than nothing. if you fancy a change from steaming them, i can strongly recommend frying them! mmmhmmmm!
Burntlego 22-02-2008, 12:17 PM I was just about to make a thread on this but did a search first, glad I did because I just called and got the same message, I was gutted as I've never been before and really wanted to try it... guess I left it too late! :(
Alastair 22-02-2008, 12:28 PM It's very sad that it closed, they had a truly different and winning formula.
Does anyone know why it closed? It was always busy and must have been making money.
giggy 22-02-2008, 01:35 PM Oh no, my favourite! :(
lexatron 22-02-2008, 04:00 PM I don't understand why it closed either. Everytime I went in all the tables were full, any night of the week. Add onto that the amount of people who get take out dumplings.... strange.
sophiec1979- I have been thinking about trying the frozen ones, my housemate tried making some herself and they were nice, just not as nice as the real thing :(

the frozen ones are authentic- sort of in the same way that frozen fish and chips is here....its just never quite going to be the same as from the chippy! :P
give them a whirl, see what you reckon- or you could try the chinese supermarket down between london road and the forge (where the bed shop is). they may have a greater range of fillings.

lexatron 22-02-2008, 04:08 PM I live on London Rd and didn't even realise there was one around here? Where abouts is it? Bed shop?

ta dar! (http://www.yell.com/quickclicks/SP/S/Supermarkets/sheffield/1)
i only found it by accident walking to a mates house just off abbeydale road ages ago. we went a slightly different way because there was a match on and we didnt want to get caught up in the melee after it.
multi map says its here (http://maps.yell.com/client/yell/?&nat_id=900393825&businessType=SUPERMARKETS&qs=S2+4QF&sl=false&storePC=S2+4QF&ssm=0&companyName=KH+Trading+%26+Retailing+Chinese+Super market&clarifyIndex=&clarifyOptions=&replayURL%2Fucs%2FUcsSearchAction.do%3FsearchType% 3Dadvance%26keywords%3DSupermarkets%26ssm%3D1%26lo cation%3Dsheffield%26potential%3D68%26NSL1%3D%26NS LINDEX1%3D%26NSL2%3D%26NSLINDEX2%3D) all i can remember was it was near the forge complex...the bed shop may now have gone!
i have to admit that i havent actually been in it though...its on my list of things to do- when ive got some money to spent on interesting things! (*read: havent got a clue what it is, what to do with it, whether ill even like it...but it looks good- things* ;))
hope that helps

twoteas 23-02-2008, 01:00 PM im gutted! i loved jabu
chinaski 25-02-2008, 03:44 PM The Chinese supermarket/ wearhouse is well worth a visit. They have a huge range of foods and loads of frozen seafood and dumplings. The main problem is knowing what you're buying. I have bought some dumplings and won tons from there and have had mixed results. I always go there though to buy squid and crab. Last time I went, I bought some frogs legs and made kebabs with them for a bbq.
hypester 25-02-2008, 06:15 PM JABU HAS CLOSED....
spoke to one of their staff.
The sale of Jabu fell thru, took so long the staff didnt want to wait anymore.
They are all going back to Beijing to watch the Olympics....
The owner is deciding what to do......
