I think this is going to be a brilliant game. It looks certain that united are going to sell out. So what an atmosphere it will be.

Although I think it will be a close game, i think united may dip with a 1-0 loss tonight.

What do you think will happen?

Anything can happen, thats the magic of the cup. All i know is my throat will be raw from doing my bit (singing none stop for 90 mins) i just hope the players can show the passion that us fans feel. Should be a great game tho!

Apart from the penalty Gray has not scored from open play for some time, cannot understand he was a goal machine last season.I think Kabba & Beckett may come on as subs as some point, hope we are not losing 1-0 & Warnock put's them on with 10 mins to go.anyway i am being positive 2-1 ET or to win on Pens.UP THE BLADES

Although I'm a born and bred owl I honestly (and I'll not be saying this for a while) hope United stuff those cheating dirty lot that are Arsenal.

I hate Arsenal with unbridled passion.

Just glad we beat them the last time we met, dispite the DiCanio and Paul Alcock affair.

good performance. great defebding 9esp Geary, Jags and Morgan) and I thought Monty was everywhere. Gray was great 1st half but was obviously dying second.

why play for pens? I didn't understand that (considering how woeful we are) I think he kept Gray on the pitch so at least we would score 1 !!!

What was Kenny doing in pens? If he couldn't dive why not put Jags in goal? Never got anywhere near saving one.

I'd have liked him to have put Kabba and Francis on for the 2nd half of extra time. Francis on the wing and Kabba upfront and just both try and use their pace to run at them.

Oh well.

Well done to the Blades for beating Arsenal 2-1 (by most people's reckoning) at Highbury and them holding them 0-0 at Bramhall Lane. I think Jeremy Paxman was upset at the Blades delaying Newsnight though... he said that "Sheffield Wednesday" have done really well to take Arsenal to penalties!

Now the Blades are out of the cup, if they continue to play this well and put a good striker such as Beckett or Kabba on then they should make the play-offs and go up!

01-03-2005, 22:59
Well 100% from the lads, some of them must be knackerd! I thought we could have had them in the first minute of both halves, Geary was all over defending with Morgan and Jags. Let's make the extra games count now in the league! Can't wait to se Kabba and Francis pushing for starting places.

Now it's rant time as I normally don't:hihi: Warnock WTF were you thinking with the line up? They (arse) knew what to expect why not go all out on it and play a 4-4-2 with two strikers and Quinn starting in midfield? Gray could hardly walk and I wasn't sure if he would score his pen. Why play like we did (Defending in our box only most of the time) and play for a draw when we have a trip to Cardiff on Saturday, go all and if we loose 2-0 or 3-0 fine at least we don't have to go through extra time to tire us even more.

Well done lads, you did us proud, Warnock take a step back and think about what you did!

Up the Blades!

You obviously watched a diff game. Four best chances of the game fell to United. Arse hit bar and ....... oh thats it.

Quite simply, we nullified their midfield, which had one of the worlds leading players in it just to remind you. To go with two up top and sacrifice a midfielder we would have been ripped to shreds as they would have passed their way through the middle. We stopped them doing that. Hit them on the break well. Tonge should have been shot for the chance he missed in the first min. And Harley should easily have added two more.

Their number 42 who came on as sub looked a superb player. One definately to watch.

I watched the game last night, and as a Wednesday fan, I though it was great to see a team play with such passion and determination, not just for 90 minutes, but for 30 minutes of extra time as well. I think the players should be proud of what they achieved - they matched Aresnal, with the only difference between them beig a couple of kicks at the end.

Wednesday could do with takeing a leaf out of the Blades' book and learn how to stay focused for a whole game.

I hope that the result gives the Blades and the fans the confidence in their push for promotion.

Not just a good result for United, but a good result for Sheffield Football.

I hope this bit of diplomacy isn't going to upset too many people. I know passions run deep where Owls and Blades are concerned, but if you can't look out for your neighbours every once in a while, what kind of world are we living in.

Sermon over!

Well thanks Basher a owls fan with some sense,it is about Sheffield not slagging off each others team,we got more crowd than you ha,ha,.If there are no owls fans that have anything decent to say about the best team in Yorkshire stop posting on our threads & go to your own weak thread.Geary was magnificent he kept Cole in his pocket for 2 hours & Chelsea are willing to pay £40 million.Geary was the man of the match for me,all the team did Sheffield Proud. But Mr Warnock a striker up front on his own for 2 hours Gray looked knackered,he ran all over the place to get the ball.In the 2nd period of extra time he should have put on Shaw or Kabba & go for the win,if a striker had got to Harley's header goal no doubt.Warnock wanted penaltys knowing that Kenny who I might add was fantastic, injured & could not dive to his right side look at all 4 Arsenal pens all in the same spot, they new Kenny had trouble with his hip.So we should push on for the playoffs.UP THE BLADES

What do you mean where's Bladeschat gone (the superior thread that owls fans use more than their own piddly thing)? we are using this a a seperate thread for the replay like there was one for the original. Where was Wendesay chat after you lost to Bradford and when you c***ed up against mighty Brentford (Come on the Bees)?

on the topic of the tactics, I do think Warnock c***ed up big time, how can Cygan the premier leagues worst defender run 25-30 yards until someone tries to get a foot in? we had 5 in the middle that were not organised and how could gray try and derend from the front on his own?

Geary was my man of the match aswell it seemed however Tonge looked like he was hiding an injury, he could hardly walk when he left the field and he was the same against Rotherham.

Nice to hear from you wednesday fans again, you've all been pretty quiet recently.

Well done to The Blades, we're proud of you. Even though we lost on penalties, we showed steel and determination and defended really well. A few chances that we should have put away, but it just wasn't to be.

If we can defend like that against the premiership champions for 210 minutes (both games), whos squad cost millions to assemble with a couple of world cup winners, lets hope we can push harder for the play-offs.

Well done Blades.

Watched the game from extra time onwards, and not being much of a footie fan, I found it makes a difference when you can hear the ground.

I thought United did brilliantly well to keep the score level during extra time, and the United goalie (who he?) made a couple of very tidy saves indeed. (Not in the penalty shootout sadly where he was wrongfooted four times in a row.

Despite losing, they should be proud of themselves.

Funny how they always cut from the camera trained on Warnock every time his lips formed an "F" and his head went back...

Although you only watched the extra time it's nice to know a neutral can enjoy it. Kenny (our keeper) was wrong footed as he has a bad hip on his right side so I guess he was unsure of diving on it to further the injury, but he kept us in the game with some good saves.

Utd had more than 2 chances,Tonge 45 seconds,Harley at the start of the 2nd half,Harley on 90 mins, plus Morgan just had a header over the bar.Granted Arsenal had more chances & so they should, but Yorkshire grit won the day. Also Utd had 58% of the play so who is the best team in Yorkshire.UP THE BLADES.

Five chances if you count the Karate kick Morgan had in the second half, his first touch didn't help though. If he had kept it down he may have smashed it in or nutted an Arse defender on the head for missing.

Im going to watch a replay because obviously being at the game and not on the couch does something for your memory cellls. Fabragast hit the bar, Geary somehow contrived to get one over the bar from underneath it, a Jagielka flick at the back post that I think was going wide anyway, and a couple of saves from Paddy that were on target but never really looked liked going in. From this, how did you get to Arsenal should have scored 4 or 5? Possession wise maybe but clear cut chances no.

Wednesday lost the League Final in normal time in '93 and the F.A. Cup Final in the last minute of extra-time in a replay.
Older Wednesdayites will remember taking a full strength Arsenal side (O'Leary,Stapleton,Brady etc.) to FIVE games in the F.A. Cup in 1979 (three of the replays held at Leicester City) when Wednesday were in the old Third Division. Just goes to show the Cup can be a great leveller - so it's probably unwise to think your Cup performances have any bearing on the capabilities of your team. Don't forget your results against the top sides in your division have been poor.

robbie
03-03-2005, 21:38
I'm not saying it does. We have been awful in the league most of this season. I just think its off that Wednesday fans come into a United thread and laugh/celebebrate/gloat that we loast to the English champions only after a replay and penalties.

some people should grow up (and should be banned from posting rubbish in other team threads)

Its not like Wednesday got beaten by the mighty Swindon in the cup (if my memory serves me correctly)

What is it about Wendy fans that they always resort to the "our crowds are bigger" argument. Do you sleep at night dreaming of the massive attendance you are going to get for your local derby against errr Doncaster Rovers. "Result don't matter, lads, we got 30,000 there."

Great.

So a question. Who got the most people watching on Tuesday. Go on. See if you can guess and post the answer. Are you ready...... Eastenders or Sheffield United?

Oh deary me. When will people realise that attendances do not make a club 'BIG'!

Weds get bigger crowds than alot of prem teams but does that make them a bigger club? The league tables would suggest not!!

Have you seen Juve's crowds for Champ League (lower than most blades crowds) so by Wednesday fans reckoning both sheff clubs must be 'bigger' than Juve!!!

Look at Wigan just over 10.000 every home match, they have hardly been out of the top 3 all season,so is Wigan a bigger club because of ambition of there millionare chairman or are they a small club who just got lucky, like Bradford & Barnsley.I would be happy with the squad we have if Warnock alternated the players if they were not playing to form.Give the other players a chance Mr Warnock.Leeds have signed King on loan, how many loans have Leeds had this season??.UP THE BLADES

erm, while I hate Warnock and wont attend another game whilst he's in charge to say we were rubbish is just plain silly. we didn't get beaten by the English champions in 210 minutes of football.

The first half in the replay the tactics were spot on.

wide open line up? one of their players if worth more than all our or yours. they may be young but they would still walk into our sides.

like "always s*** on Tesco carrier bags". great song.

what is your problem?

go and grow up and stop abusing another club for no reason. we all like banter but you are being a prat.

look, we are both underachieving. I'd love for us to win the Premiership and Wednesday come second. Put some pride back into Sheffield football because we are both a joke at the minute.
