View Full Version : Vandalism At City Road Cemetery
I have seen some info on Teletext that some gravestones have been damaged & the police are asking the public to be vigil & report anyone causing this vandalism members of my family are buried down there.I have had first hand experience with this sort of mindless vandalism,my son's grave ,flowers & other items stolen, his cross snapped in half. Our local vicar at the time said we should not put anything other than flowers down,I said to him but they are stealing the flowers as well & putting personal items on a headstone is part of the healing process, thank god he has left.
1Man&hisBMW 01-03-2005, 13:42 Disgraceful. Theres some real morons about.
Yeah it hurts when some moron destroys something you got for a loved one or steals something. My grandson took a little purple teddy bear with my son's birth stone attached for fathers day & someone stole it ,the pain & anger you feel is something else. But we got another one & I put a notice down at the church saying thanks for stealing our grandson's fathers day present for his dad,it is still there.
it is totally disgusting, i cant beleive some b*&%$#ds, my 16 year old lad is no angel but he thinks this is just plain and simply evil.
my heart goes out to you and your grandson, dont let these mindless morons make your grief even worse than it already is. i spose we should pity them that they arnt capable of having human feelings and morals.
is it alowed for cemetries to have cctv fitted?

Thanks I asked the church about cctv & all I got was it would cause more vandalism,I went mad.I have had cctv for 7 yrs & touch wood no problems, before I had cars broken into on my drive.
What disgusts me is that a visitor noticed the damage, what about the council, they get plenty of money out of the familys who are in the cemetery,so keeping a check on the grounds is not included in the price.they should be ashamed
tskkk that sounds daft to me.. how would having cctv cause more probs? i would think it would be a deterant. i know vandalism ( is it a word?) is bad enough anywhere but it absolutly disgusting for it to happen in a cemetry, i think the penalty for been caught should be even higher than anywhere else.
yes i agree the council should be ashamed, ya would think it was their business to keep an eye on it. even employ some one to watch over.

Yes but the problem is once the council have the money in their hands they don't care. The police & council said after the damage to my sons grave & others they would keep more of an eye on the churchyard,I have not seen the police for months & graves are still having items stolen from them & some kids set a fire at the back of our son's grave on top of a old grave, hows that for respect.I lived opposite Heeley Church for 20 yrs & me & my pals never damaged as much as a flower,we knew about respect back then kids today do not care.
its deffinatly a sign of the times isnt it * lack of respect* and its funny but it isnt just the young uns that lack it, im sure some people just think its an out dated fashoin accessory.
respect and politeness cost nothing and make everyones lives that bit nicer, where as the opposite takes time and energy ( i mean the little bugger that smashed all our car windows the other night had to stop make sure no one was looking then use energy to smash the windows) and causes nothing but upset and irritation.
what on earth is it going to be like in years to come:rant:

Things have gone from bad to worse over the years but were definitely better when all the cemeteries had wardens living in the little lodges on site. They could keep an eye on things and act immediately but unfortunately they came under the axe to save money.
The problem is as with most cases of mindless vandalism is that these yobs are all orphans. Everyone of them has no parent to look after them. We have the same problem in this village , though thank god they have not round to vandalising the graveyard. we say that as there is no parental control we must have more orphans than Saigon.
