I came out from work last night and found that my car had been damaged. Obviously something hit it.
Luckily, someone left a small sticker on the windshield of my car and told me to nip in to the shop I was parked outside.
An eye-witness left me his details and the details of the accident. It was a green Terrier bus, and it had driven off without passing on any details.
I called them up this morning, only for them to try and get me to go through my own insurance. Cheeky sods. If I do that then my insurance (no claims) goes up next time round.
I am to give them 2 estimates now and they will take it from there.
Should I tell the police or my own insurance?

As an ex bus driver,I can tell you now,the driver HAS to report this to the police. If no third party is on the scene,he has to report it.
My advice to you is go to the cops and tell them that you have a witness. If your witness has the times of the bump, the bus company should be able to work out who it was.

The Police will not get involved unless someone is injured.

Reason: Why should the tax payer pay someone (Police) to investigate. The insurers make enough money.

the police will indeed get involved, failure to stop (unless they left details).

You should also go through your own insurance, they will claim against the bus company who carry their own liability. It will not affect your no claims as it is not a claim against you, nor against your fully comp, it's just your insurance company doing their job and making a claim on your behalf against a 3rd party.

Tell the bus company (if you wish to speak to them again) that if you are going to go to the hastle of getting quotes, you will also be billing them for the cost of your time, the phone calls, and any other miscellaneous expenses involved.

My mistake Cyclone. I missed the bit about leaving details :loopy:

I went to my insurance company, but they said to get estimates, but like Cyclone says, it's a waste of my time and money so I should tell them that I'm claiming for the expenses.

Cheers y'all

I always wondered what people do in minor accidents now, at one time we were told to STAY, call police and not to move either car, now they say, first off all get cars off the road yourself if able, don't bother calling police anymore, exchange insurances and thats it ? call for a tow if nessessery.
