Hi all,
Are there any members of the TA (Territorial Army) here? There a number of regiments here in Sheffield.
I’m thinking of joining and looking for some advice or an inside to what it’s like etc?
Coming up to a good time of year to join. Doing your two weeks basic training in January February is not as much fun.
You've got the Signals at the top of the Manor or the Medics in Ecclesall, both are very active.
You've also got the REME in Rotherham too. Good Luck !
I was in the Marine Reserves (Marines equivalent of the TA) for a while, what stuff do you want to know?

don't join 212 Fd Hosp unless you are a doctor, everyone else is treated with disdain, unless your face fits with a smalll clique of peopel with delusions of adequacy
huge tension between between more junior nurses and some of the clueless feckers that are CMT SNCOs through turning up for long enough
Can anyone in the TA answer this please???
Is there a sort of database that holds details of all past members.
The reason i ask i that im looking for a family member who was once in the TA but dont know anything other than his name( need DOB etc, past adresses) so it is impossible to start my search.
Any help or advise is greatfully received.

I doubt very much that such a database with all the details you need would be available for public perusal.
yeah thats what i was thinking too.
Anybody have any other ideas on how i could go about doing this??
cheers
ooh I was thinking of joining the Medics TA. Is it really that bad ???

Try contacting each unit and leaving your details. We had a reunion some years ago now, i was in the signals they managed to track me and my mr down after 20 years. Anyhow good luck!:) I'd reckomend the signals if your thinking of joining i had a great time met my hubs there too!

If you contact the army, they will send you an application pack that enables you to obtain the army records only of a deceased relative, and only if you are the surviving next of kin. The widow is considered the immediate next of kin, then children of the deceased, then grandchildren.
In other words, if the relative you are seeking is not dead, and you are not the most direct next of kin, I wouldn't bother. Knowing the regiment in which they served is absolutely essential, otherwise its no can do. Apparently they get hundreds and hundreds of requests and if they aren't given enough information they're chucked.
I only know because I was trying to get hold of the records of a very close relative but am unable to due to most of the above reasons!
