Folks, just wanted to check if this works or not.
Basically I have saved a HDD image of PC1 (XP Prof) on an external HDD using Norton Ghost 12. Can I use that image file to make a virtual PC on a totally different computer which is also running XP Prof. I think I know how to access the files by mounting the HDD image as a virtual drive, but I want to have the image running as a separate OS (like 2 OS on the same computer > one physically installed and the other one virtual).
And which software (preferably free) can do this job?

There is a good chance that I might not have explained my requirements very clearly (me being technically novice), so please let me know if that is the case.

Cheers

Virtualisation software can convert a physical machine into a virtualisation image, don't know of anything which can do the same from a Ghost image.

Can you put the Ghost image back on your machine and virtualise it straight from hardware?

Thanks GrinderBloke for your reply. And what precisely would you do that once you have created a virtualisation image. If I am not mistaken then you would create a virtualisation image using a Virtualisation software just as a Norton image and save it in a different location (say external HDD). you can then use that image on any computer and work on a virtual environment.
Have I understood this correctly ??
