Greenhill as you've probably discovered is a good fifteen minute drive from Lowfields but is a nice area. However It also borders on to the Lowedges estate which has some 'interesting' spots. If you can narrow the area's you're considering i.e. the name of the road you'll probably get lots of feedback. There isn't a huge amount of council housing near Highfields that I can remember though there's loads of privately rented accomadation. Norfolk Park, Gleadless Valley are two council owned area's but again they have their good and bad spots.
