View Full Version : Who sang this song? 1970's?
beansforyou 28-02-2005, 19:08 I've tried googling with no sucess, I heard this today in the Co-op and it really took me back to being a kid, but I can't ermember what its called or who by, the only lyrics I can remember are..
Good times Bad times happy or sad, being in love, is better than being (old?)
Feel like a weather man, one day sun, next day rain,
And you ask me if I really care, don't you know the answer?
Rainy days ooOOoh never felt this way...
*deep breath*
I wanna stay with you
(DA DA DAAAAAA)
For the rest of my life,
I wanna be with you
(DA DA DAAAAA)
For the rest of my liiiiiiiiiiiiifffe
:)

Yeah, I remember this song. I can hear it right now in my head - trouble is, I can't remember who sang it either!
I think it might be Andy Fairweather-Lowe, or possibly Pilot.
No, scrub the above, it's Gallagher and Lyle!

muddycoffee 28-02-2005, 19:32 Gallagher and Lyle.
They also did
"Heart on my sleeve"
beansforyou 28-02-2005, 19:44 Never heard of them! lol
I think I had it on an old cassette my dad gave me
Thanks :)
muddycoffee 28-02-2005, 19:58 They were both great songwriters, who were in a few other bands through their careers. I think maybe one of them was in the Hollies perhaps. And they got together in the mid 70s and had a number 6 album which was very popular and at least 1 less popular album after that.
On the whole a little bland for my taste though. If you want a superb example of music from this era, get the Fleetwood Mac album Rumours. Every track is brilliant, and they recorded the whole thing in a dope addled stupor. Before falling out.
beansforyou 28-02-2005, 20:17 I've got most of Fleetwood mac's stuff, Personally my main taste points more towards Black Sabbath, smoothing out towards Supertramp, Canned Heat, Free...etc..
This was just one of those songs you've realised you've not heard since being a kid :)
Thanks!
muddycoffee 28-02-2005, 20:21 I can't argue with any of those bands. Excellent taste..
I have often sent myself crosseyed watching the vortex thing in the middle of black sabbath volume 4 as it goes around on the record deck.
mojoworking 01-03-2005, 00:59 Yes, it's called I Wanna Stay With You by Gallagher & Lyle. It was a top 10 hit in 1976.
There is no Hollies connection, but the duo were a spin-off from McGuinness Flint who had a big hit with When I'm Dead & Gone in 1970.
Tom McGuinness was of course from Manfred Mann and Hughie Flint had played with John Mayall among many others.
Benny Gallagher & Graham Lyle later became songwriters, penning monster AOR hits for Tina Turner and the like
it came out again in 1993 dont no if it charted as high as the original:)
beansforyou 01-03-2005, 22:31 I love JOhn Mayall, and Neil Young too,
As for the Vol 4 Swirly, thats actually the old Vertigo record label (and worth a bob or two if i'm not mistaken)
When I went to the Sabbath reunion in Birmingham in 97, the only 'special effect' they had was a large 'swirly' beamed onto the back of the NEC...
classic
:D
