Have looked at Ponds Forge but they want £8 for 45 mins which seems a bit steep to me and they want to charge more for bat hire on top. Anyone know of any cheaper tables, anywhere, city centre(ish) preferred?

Philly,

I run a TT club, fees only £25 per year. Available to practice after 6pm till 10:30. If you are just a social player, we do coaching.

If you just want to play socially Don Valley Table Tennis club at the EIS do an hour for £3, dont know whether you have to provide your own bat?

I have played at TTMan's club once and can say that the club has some good players - you will like it there. The only reason I did not join up was that I lived too far from the club.

If you want to play without joining any club, you can also book a table at Goodwin Sports Centre. I believe it is about £6 for 45 minutes.

I've seen people playing at Hillsborough Leisure Centre. I don't know how much it is per hour though.

Where is the club TT man? I'll have to consult with my potential opponent but might be a goer. I think I'm beyond coaching though.

Where are the tables in there? Isn't it a bit sweaty playing table tennis in a pub? Are the tables permanantly set up or is this just at specific times?

This thread seems to have gone a bit quiet - but is there anywhere over this end of town - Sharrow/Heeley/Eccy Road?

I still haven't managed to get down to The Common Room but that might be the way forward.

Sorry Guys to not be in Touch, but one of my players died and the Council have taken over the building, so the club is closing at the end of April. I do not forsee it opening again either.

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I have been quite busy over the last two months

Dear All

club now closed, but they have Wednesday sessions at EIS for £3 per hour.

Look up Sheffield Table Tennis League and the club you are looking for is called Don Valley, you will have to provide your own bats and balls though.

I hope this helps

Proterra,

who's the ETTA coach? How good is he? When are sessions on Friday, might pop up and have a look.

If its Rod Bly, he's a ****e coach. I beat him on a regular bais, his game is from 40 years ago. Ask him to show you how to counter loop and punch block. Also ask him if he can show you a legal serve, all those should show you how limited he is!

No its not Rod. Its Graham Brooke. we meet at Handsworth Grange school in the hall ( ask at sports centre reception) . The older ones come from 7pm till 9, before that its the young ones. We played in the senior league ( div 6) last year and also the Junior league.

Hi Phil
It will work out cheaper to join a club than hire regularly at a sports centre. Clubs will have social or practice nights and then match nights for teams that play in Sheffield Table Tennis League.
I am a member of Wadsley Bridge and the tables are free any time there is not scheduled practice, training or matches, so you just need to find a keyholder who fancies a game. You can find a full list of sheffield league clubs and contacts at http://www.sheffieldtabletennis.co.uk/
