Indeed - the "UK-Info Disk", based on the 2003 electoral roll, lists 284 Stanilands in the Sheffield area. The only family of that name whom I knew had a butcher's shop in Middlewood Road in the 1950s and 60s. They sold up and retired to Devon.

I remember about 15yrs ago going with a friend of mine(he was a Staniland) to visit his grandparents, couldn't remember their names or the street name if i tried, think it was more fox-hill end of Parsons cross. Will try to contact him see what info i can get.

No fraid not Tara, the old memory is'nt so good these days, I remember Walter Stevenson lived next door to me.

There is a Staniland family that live in Worksop because i married one,Peter.Also Douglas,Kieth,Roy (deceased) Descendants of William Staniland.

A Staniland couple lived accress the street from us 50 years back, but lived on Southey Green, he grew tomatoes for every one on the street, don't think they had any children.

I went to Hillsborough county School on Parkside Road with a Walter Staniland. His family lived on Harewood Road in Owlerton near the Bassett's Sweets factory.

I believe he has now passed over but he would have been about 70 years old today.

I stumbled upon this posting while conducting some research on footballer who played for Sheffield FC in the 1950-51 season.

It appears a player called J. Staniland played for the club but I haven't a Christian name.

I knew a Vince Stniland about 1960, he will be about my age now, possibly a bit older - 71. He bought a house at Aston about 1961/62, then was married with one small child. He worked in their family business STANILANDS they had a big fruit and veg stall in the old rag market area. Hope this helps you

There is a Barry Staniland who is part of a large family of Stanilands from Oughtibridge,( weather that is the one you are talking about im not sure) and a lot of them still live there. Barry will be in his mid to late 50`s now ,and he has a brother called Robert and a sister called Denise. All still residing in Oughtibridge as far as i know.
