I always think it's a brilliant sight when a skylines covered in cranes - means that theres plenty of money being invested in the area.

I think that one 45 degree arc contains 12 of them,

I'm just down the road from you in Milton House and I can't actually see any - that bizarre empty eggbox building over the road is blocking my view lol

We've noticed this too - they appear to be breeding. Wouldn't surprise me if we saw tiny ones running around soon!

Pretty spectacular though, some of them.

Mind you, do you ever ask yourself how a crane driver goes to the toilet????

There was an item in the telegraph last year about crane operators. Apparently if they need a wee they go in a pop bottle - the guy being interviewed boasted he used a lucozade bottle due to the very wide neck :D I presume if they need a poo they have to use a margarine tub or something?

How do cranes get put up on a site? I suppose once assembled one crane could lift the sections of another into place, but how did the first one get built?? :hihi:

When I was a secretary on a building site (we were building the new incinerator at Bernard Road) I got to "drive" the huge crane on site there! Highlight of my year!

There is about the same amount of cranes in Leeds as there are in Sheff.

*raises hand at being a crane spotter*

I do have a good excuse though... I work opposite the St pauls building site. They were building that massive crane in a thunder storm during the summer flooding!

I'm surpised Sheffield and Leeds have managed to secure so many cranes, considering how many are being used in the UAE at the moment. (not that I'm a crane anorak mind!!). I personally love the sight of Sheffield being developed against a backdrop of largely industrial buildings - it's a fine mix architecturally.
