I am hungry, it is lunchtime

I nearly always go to Fox's sandwich (and potato) shop opposite the Peace gardens.

And once in a while I go to the pasty shop along from there a bit

Am I missing any really good places I could go to instead?

I do like jacket potatoes but can have something else every now and then

I work in a big office building next to Cole Brothers, John Lewis's
It is called Burgess Street
I can get to the city centre in about three steps!

Erm, there's a decent sarni shop on Division Street next to Florists (Sandwich Division I think). They do a wicked roast sarni with apple sauce and or stuffing. :P

Greggs the Bakers is the best

Cheese salad roll - £1.10
Cheese and onion pasty - 59p

God only knows what the nutritional value is. A notice (err, legal disclaimer?) only states that the products may contain this, that and some of the other artificial sweeteners, flavours, colours..

oh dear, I think I'll stay away in future... :(

Chapel Walk has Sandwich Sandwich (very good), O'Neills (not tried it but supposed to be very good) and the orange "french" one which is very good.

i reckon greggs put sugar in the bread and dressings, or that stuff they put in pringles to make you addicted. mingadingdingin'

try pirate pasties (sheffield pasty or 1/2 jackets with cheese and chives for 50p) or double dutch for pancakes, smoothies, yoghurts and salads. both in orchard square.

Deli-schuss (spelling?) on west street is great!, i think they also have a place in Orchard Square.

I think I must walk round with my eyes closed -

or else I dont know where these places are

Orchard Square is roughly where Virgin is, right? Never spotted a food place there, and dont know where Chapel Row is either, but like the sound of the foody places, please advise - and tell me what shops they are near to..

...eyes shut lady

Orchard Square is indeed near Virgin, if you go down the walkway between Virgin and Dixons its directly infront of you with a big red lift on the front. It used to have a food court downstairs with loads of places including a mechanical crocodile to throw money at! :D, now i believe it just has a few takeaway food places and TKMAXX (or whateva it is) inside.

Belle

Ah.........that would be near the fancy shoe shop and the shop that sells model giraffes

So are these foody places downstairs on a lower level then? Do I have to go down this lift?

I cannot for the life of me visualise foody stalls/shops ... but will be hotfooting it over there next week I can promise

nah its on the ground floor, its rather poor compared to how it used to be.

I think theres just like a few little shops on the right hand side of the ground floor that sell food, nothing amazing, but like i say i know the deli-shuss shop on west street is wonderful so if thats anything to go by :).

I'll agree with you on that. As far as Bakers go - Greggs is the best.

One of the best sandwich shops near the Peace Gnds has to be Ha!Ha!'s. Especially the tuna and spring onion - yummy! You can even sit outside and have a beer too

that place on chapel walk is called Delice De France - i know that cos as a student i was introduced to it from the offset.

Spot on venue - sitting in aint the cheapest but you can order a hot baguette (i like tuna and cheese melt) a pain au chocolat, a can of pop as you call it up here, and a packet of walkers all for the measly sum of £3 to take out. Right then bargain hunters - i'd say you in to make a slight profit there!!! Either that or end up down West Bar nick for robbing them blind through value.

If you can beat that, then you can pat yourself on the back for being one of life's lucky winners.

PS if you are either up on the hunters bar section of ecclesall road, thats right hunters bar not ecclesall, then you will find a winner in Woody's sandwich bar. £1.80 for tuna melt. Its all good.

The one I always go to is Pollards on Charles Street not 100 yards from you. The coffees the best because it's their own and ground on the premises, there's no piped music and only 2 smoking booths which I've never seen used by smokers. The foods good too.

There's another one next to the Cathedral which has many more tables but is just as good.

I realise that this is an old(ish) thread so you may have found somewhere you like.

I notice much praise for the chapel walk sarni bars,
However while in one of these the wife noticed a small bit of lettuce leaf meandering around on the counter.
When bringing this to the attention of a member of staff, and asking if they knew they had ants.
was told
"we'll let the cleaner Know"
needless to say she didn't bother buying anything and promptly left.

Big recommendation:

Double Dutch Pancakes (in the mini shopping centre with TKMaxx in it). Great selection, made to order, very tasty.

Other places I like include The Lunch Stop (there's a few of these around Glossop Road), Belly Busters (MASSIVE portions, also on Glossop Road) and the ever-popular Subway (I forget the name of the road, but it's near the Devonshire Chippy).

My favourite sarni shop of all time is Jarvis's on Matilda St, which is a small shop catering for the local industry around there.
As a young apprentice and sandwich lad I thrived on their sos & tom, tom dip and dripping cakes.
On fridays(pay day) rat buns and vanilla slices were had to accompany lunch.
It's still there now but known as 2J's

If I'm after a sandwich in town, I usually go to Sarni's, down the bottom of Fargate, between the GT News and Cooplands.

Nice prices, good service.
