I'm trying to trace a lost uncle of mine (Fred taylor ) who was put into fulwood cottage homes @ 1945 when he would have been abt 1 yr old but not having much luck with tracking him down so I wondered if anyone out there could tell me more about the home in general - conditions etc and any memories of other children they were in with , I realise this may be a difficult subject for some people so you could always send me a discreet p.m and your anonymity will be respected , many thanks
Richard

Hello again! Type Fulwood Cottage Homes into the "Search" box (on the left) - there are still some threads that you may find interesting...! I'll send the other info as soon as I can.... (haven't forgotten!)

I was at Lydgate Lane Junior school 1947-1954. Several boys in my year lived at the Cottage Homes. One, in my class, passed to go to High Storrs but couldn't go because of inability to pay for uniform. Have contacted him via Friends Reunited and he's done fine. Living in America when I contacted him 4 years ago. He's not listed on the site any more.

Im not sure where my mum was but it may have been here, along with her siblings in the middle 1940s. Gower family. Anyone remember them?

he was friends with my brother more than me because they were about the same age...he went through hell in there as we all did with a housemother called winnie edge in cottage 1......i only remember about six people in fch but he was one of them...he always seemed real tall to me but maybe thats cos i was so small and about 6 years younger...i saw it in the star when he died...i thought there can,t be another person with that name because it was so unusual

I went up there to fch a few weeks back with my video camera to do some filming around cottage 1. while i,m doing that this bloke whose one of the new owners came out and asked me why...when i told him i used to live there he said he was worried i might be a burglar and casing the joint...he said they had a massive burglar problem...i had to smile....people trying to break in there....seems a million miles away from we were trying to break out

Really sorry to hear that your brother passed. Thanks for taking the time to post.
Did they knock down and rebuild on the land or are the original house still there?
best wishes xx
