Greetings!

Anyone any ideas if I can actually draw-up a will and have it "officialised" by a soilicitor at my age (sixteen)?
I don't think a roughly drawn up will in Word is going to do the trick....

Secondly, can I start up a pension at sixteen? I'm pretty sure eighteen is the age....?

Cheers,
Alex

As far as I know, in England and Wales, you can't make a Will until you're 18. It's 12 in Scotland. I found this website quite useful when I was looking into making a Will. See here (www.willdrafters.com/). Then see "Will facts" in the top menu bar for some answers to questions about Wills.

You also don't need a Solicitor to write or look after a Will for you. I had no idea how to write a Will but I bought a Will Writing pack from WH Smiths (think it was £14.99) and that explained things in a pretty straight forward way. It had example forms to use with the right kind of statements on like "I give the residue of my estate to..." so you just have to complete people's names. It explains that you should get it witnessed by 2 people and so on. I also used the website given above to make sure that I was clear on what I was doing.

As long as you keep a copy and the Executors of your Will have a copy then you don't need a Solicitor to have a copy or anything.

It depends how complicated your situation is though as to whether a Will Writing Pack is appropriate. If your Will was going to be a bit complicated then the advice of a Solicitor could be useful to make sure that all parts of your Will are clear and therefore can't be declared as invalid.

Don't know about a pension though...
