Does anyone know what days the tent will be there for this year for St Patricks Day?

Cheers.

March 1st; this year Wales and Ireland have exchanged saints in a gesture of friendship.

St Patrick's day has been moved to the 15th this year as it falls in Holy Week - the last time this happened was 1940!

Aaaahhhh St Patrick's day, when everybody pretends they have some Irish in them and that they like guinnness and drink it all year round. They start to talk a bit like Jim McDonald from corrie so they do!

We're just going for the craic so we are...how sad!

Possibly the most artificial and commercially exploited celebration in the whole calendar other than Christmas of course. I think non-Irish people who use this day as an excuse to get trollied have something missing in their lives...so I do!:D

Mark Simmonite is the entrepreneurial landlord of the Guinness tent. He is the landlord at Champs now so perhaps someone could ask him? Here's to St.Patrick. Slainte!

i miss living in Ireland. St Pattys day is a bank holiday and no one from Ireland actually goes to the pubs, they all sit at home getting drunk.

Does anybody know when the St Georges day tent will be on Fargate, I have heard that the one in Dublin is great and heavly used. I know the Council refused last years saying that they did not believe enough English lived in England to support the idea.

:loopy:

God bless Bombadier, the only company thats backs Emgland day.

Have to agree with you. The Dog and Partridge is a lovely pub that does a great drop of Guinness and I'd much rather be sat in the back room there all comfy and warm than in some tent on fargate with a bunch of wazzocks wearing silly hats and waving giant inflatable 4 leaf clovers

That'll be me then. Actually it won't. I've just agreed to babysit for my friend's children that night.

The St.Patricks' marquee will be open from today -

Friday 11am til 1am
Saturday 11am til 1am
Sunday 12noon til 10.30pm
Monday 11am til 1am

Saw it in the Star last night :P
Gonna be loads of bands on tonight apparantly, and Saturday. The ones last year were really good, loads of local talent (i'm talking musical talent...but you never know! :hihi:) A multi-cultural festival, Irish music, local music and I think the rugby will be shown over the weekend too. See you down there anyone!?

Ahhh, St Patricks Day. We the British celebrate some other country's day of celebration whereas we don't celebrate our own. It just seems strange.

Out of interest, is it only Guinness that's sold in the marquee? I personally can't stand the stuff.

I'm gonna wander over there this lunchtime....i'll let you know!
It did say in the Star that there'll be a stall from Bohan's. They've got an Irish cafe/restaurant up on London Road. They do REALLY good sausage and mash....mmm, sausages and guinness, what could be nicer on a chilly spring day!

Just been to the tent, there's Fosters and Wards on draught aswell as the obligatory Guinness. Also Magners, Smirnoff Ice and a few different softies too.
Bohans are doing a BBQ and there's also a fair few stalls down Fargate doing a range of food too.

As i have said before on this they tried for a tent last year, and pubs tried for extended hours but were refused as the Council did not beleive that it was a genuine celebration and that the waving of the ST Georges cross may offend some people as the St Georges cross is a symbol of the crusades and some poeple see it as a racist flag flown by the racist movements of Britain. What total an utter rubbish. Lets not forget that this St pats day thing is just a guiness promotion to get money out of your pockets, why do you think they are now spreading it accross the weekend they know full well that no one would give a toss if they had to take the Monday off to celebrate it, its just consumerism gone mad it has nothing to do with St Pats day.

As I said in my previous thread, it is intended to be a multicultural celebration, with not only Irish entertainment but local and national bands from a variety of cultures. The chap that runs it wouldn't be able to do it without the help of Guinness, this kind of event costs an absolute packet to put on and their support is vital to the success of the weekend. It runs over the weekend because there is demand for it. And after all, the official day for St Patrick's day this year is Saturday. Opening Saturday and Monday gives them the opportunity to cater for all - those who want to celebrate Saturday and those who want to celebrate on Monday.

No-one's forcing you to pay for the Guinness, just pop along for a bit of musical entertainment if you like, it's open to all free of charge for entry.

And stop being such a flippin party pooper. Do you complain about shops opening longer hours in order to cash in on people wanting bread at 1am?

Well usual price for the black stuff is around £2.50, they shouldnt rip people off just cos its st pattys day. I know down south it would be normal to pay daft prices but this is sheffield not london.

Maybe instead of having a guy from sheffield promoting St Patricks day in ENGLAND he should take more time and promote St Georges instead. Its only a promotion for guinness day anyway so maybe it should just be called Guinness day. Its funny how us English people celebrate another country patron St more than our own just because it involves beer.
