following on from the sad songs thread, what about the songs that really give you a boost, put a smile on your face, a spring in your step, and pick you up when you're feeling down.....

for me, just a few suggestions....

Carly Simon singing 'nobody does it better'
INXS singing 'Heaven Sent'
Kaiser Chiefs 'I predict a riot'
Iggy Pop singing 'Lust for Life'

and loads more, its too hard to pick the ones that make me smile, because there are just too many of them.

Bob Dylan's 115th Dream - from Bringing it all back Home.
He 'loses' it a bit and it makes me laugh my head off.

So many - just a selection below. I'm including songs that make me feel elated and good about life, as well as making me smile

Only Ones "Another Girl, Another Planet" - simply makes the spirit soar

Boo Radleys "Wake Up Boo" - so full of the joy of just being alive

Sex Pistols "Anarchy in the UK" - like being hit in the face with a bucket of cold water - in a good way...

Blur "Park Life"

Blur "Charming Man"

Manics "Stay Beautiful"

Buzzcocks "Boredom" - it's that "be dum be dum" that always does it for me :)

Suede "So Young"

Lush "Ladykiller"

The Smiths "Sheila Take a Bow"

Midnight Oil "Beds are Burning"

Kaiser Chiefs "I Predict a Riot"

Fratellis "Chelsea Dagger"

Sensational Alex Harvey Band - "Delilah"

Proclaimers "I would walk 500 Miles"

Toy Dolls "Nellie the Elephant" - heard this for the first time in years this week - and it was glorious!

So many more...

That song always makes me cringe, I don't know why.

I think that's probably because the lyrics are just a bit embarrassing and crap - they're well-meant, but do come over a bit naive and over-earnest today. When it was first released, I don't think we were all quite as sophisticated (or cynical?) as we are now, so it worked better.

But it's a cracking tune :)

Yeah, "Rat Race" by the Specials is another one that should be on my list. As is "Free Nelson Mandela" - another glorious life-affirming song

OMG, I forgot one of the very best - "Teenage Kicks" by The Undertones. How could I forget? In fact, pretty much anything by The Undertones could be on the list.

And "Alright" by Supergrass - shut up now, Sparkle! :P

These take me back to the early eighties when things seemed a lot better!

Lambrettas - D-a-a-ance
Detroit Spinners - Cupid
The Body Snatchers - Do Rock Steady
Blondie - Atomic
The Jam - Going Underground
Frank Wilson - Do I Love you (OK, It's not the 80's, but It brings back good memories for me)

And finally this one from 1978, It's a very moving song from a young man who's relationship with his girlfriend has ended, It would bring tears to a glass eye, It really is very emotional,... Jilted John.

Don't quote me on this, but I'm sure I read somewhere (might even have been on here) that "Wake Up Boo" is apparently a technically perfect piece of music to induce feelings of happiness in the listener.

Don't get me wrong, it's a song and album I love but there is a real undercurrent of sadness in the lyrics.
