Anyone help with this one?
I'm doing some family tree research, and trying to find some family members on a 1940/1950 electoral roll. To help this along, I need to know the voting districts for:
Birley Street
and
Brookhouse Hill
Can't even find Birley Street on a current map.
Anyone know the voting district, or a nearby street that still exists?
Many thanks,
Pete

I used to live just off Birley Street many years ago - actually I was born there in 1940 and left 1945/6. Our home was on Cooper Terrace which I think was a terrace off Birley Street. Cant quite remember, but I think Birley Street ran parralel to Woodside Lane which I think you will find on an old map of sheffield. Hope this helps.

Mod Note
Hi Pete,
I've moved your query to the History and ex-pats section, where you should get more traffic.

.... I think Birley Street ran parralel to Woodside Lane which I think you will find on an old map of sheffield....Quite right - here's a map (http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u219/twigmore/Maps/Birley.jpg). This photo (http://www.picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?action=zoomWindow&keywords=s13560&prevUrl=ZnJvbnRlbmQucGhwPyZrZXl3b3Jkcz1hbGwlM0JNQV RDSEVTJTNCJTI4JTVFJTdDKyUyQiUyOUJpcmxleV9TdHJlZXQl MjglMjQlN0MrJTJCJTI5JmFjdGlvbj1zZWFyY2g=) was taken shortly before the houses were demolished and shows the bottom end of Birley Street, just behind the scrapyard..:)
