Think of Lily when you open your Valentine cards. All she ever wanted was one from her Tommy. He never sent one, he had a good reason not to send one.

A love story with a twist. Enjoy!

What a great story! And very sad. It was cleverly structured, too. I see what you mean about the twist: I thought at first you'd given the game away much too early.
I wondered about the line "That's what really finished him off," which struck me as unintentionally comical. Might "He never stood a chance" work better?
Poor old Lily, having to live with a guilty conscience all those years :(

Very powerfully told story. The beginning tripped along well but I sensed it was going to be a run of the mill "love that wasn't meant to be" story but the line "that was why I killed him" smacked me round the face and made me read it again. Very sad story but leaves me feeling angry as much as anything. Why did they do those things?
That was a good one Hopman, It makes one wonder just how many people the story relates to, after all not everyone is a Rambo.
Cracking story.
