View Full Version : Best fish and chip shop?

As the title says really.

Getting good fish and chips seems to be really difficult these days. Disappointments include:

Stale chips that have been sat there for days.
Soggy weak batter
Tasteless mushy peas
Poor gravy
No proper fish cakes (aka patties!)

Having no experiencing running a chip shop I'm not really qualified to pass judgment, but how hard is it to produce consistently good fish and chips?

So can anyone recommend good fish and chip shops in sheffield?

I'd also be interested to know if anyone knows of fish and chip shops that exist in the peak district?

Broomhill Friery's generally pretty decent. Avoid Devonshire Chippy, though.

Blimey redrobbo.... thanks for pointing those threads out....I did do a search (a poor one it seems) but missed them ones. It seems Sheffield is indeed very passionate about fish and chips.

I'd still be interested to know of any chip shops out in the countryside nearby sheffield, anyone?

The search facility isn't that easy to use TBH, I was looking for the thread about the tower next to the town hall, I gave-up after about half an hour.

I was going to go for Magpie Restaurant there - the fish goujons are to die for. They also have a great takeaway too apparently
