I have just returned from the city centre, where I visited Waterstones bookshop and Somerfields for some minced beef, and a Goodfellows cheese and tomato pizza.
I parked my car on Campo Lane and couldn't help noticing that most of the chimneys on the flats there, had trees growing out of them.
How extraordinary, wouldn't you agree?
It really could become a big tourist attraction if marketed in the right way.
We have a plant growing out of our roof!! pure lack of money to be able to remove it though. :(

I think it's cute. More trees should grow out of brickwork.
Man- made and nature blended together in harmony.
I might grow a lawn in our bedroom.
I feel so happy.

It's not as far fetched an idea as you'd think. A few weeks ago there was a programme called "The Flying Gardener" on TV and he was flying over Sheffield. He wanted to start a campaign to grass over the Meadowhall roof!
Grassing a roof keeps in heat over Winter and keeps it cool in Summer. Not to mention the environmental benefits.
I can imagine loads of people in casualty though having broken their neck while cutting the grass....
Oh yeah! I saw something like that on a garden 'makeover' show... will moss do we have plenty of that on our roof too!!
It looks nice until the plant roots start ripping up your roof tiles lol

It's more than likely a Budleia, they grow anywhere, and look nice until they push the brickwork apart and the chimney falls on someone.

Yes, but not just one, it looks like developing into a forest.
They grow like weeds, very, very quickly.
I'm sure they are a recent introduction to this country as I can't remember them being around a few years ago, they are everywhere you look, especially by the train lines and on waste ground.
