View Full Version : Spinning wheel wanted
littleblue 12-02-2008, 17:43 Does anyone have one they want to sell? (or even lend :hihi: how cheeky am i??)
I'm desperate to get one but don't want to shell out over £200 until I know I'm actually good at it.
Fanks :D
woolspinster 12-02-2008, 17:49 You might find one here: http://www.theloomexchange.co.uk/
I will ask around the Arkwright Spinsters on Sunday to see if anyone has one for sale, there is usually someone with a spare Ashford. Or you can come and ask them yourself if you fancy a trip out.
littleblue 12-02-2008, 17:59 Ooh what is this Arkwright Spinsters that you talk of?
I had my first spinning lesson today and I'm in love!
woolspinster 12-02-2008, 18:04 Hi,
The Arkwright Spinsters are a group of spinners who meet and demonstrate at Cromford Mill near Matlock, the link is here: www.geocities.com/arkwrightspinsters if you want to come along you are quite welcome, the next date is the 17th of this month entry is free. We are always happy to help new spinners and there should be someone who can advise you on pretty much anything. I will be the one at the big wheel but there are many types of other wheels that you can have a look at and see what sort of thing might suit you.
Hope to see you there possibly
Try ebay, that's where I got mine :)
I haven't used it yet, as I haven't had chance to get any fluff to play with:( I will get started soon though!
These Arkwright Spinsters sound very good, but I'm away in the Lakes this weekend so I'll have to miss out...
woolspinster 12-02-2008, 18:42 You don't have to miss out, we meet the 3rd Sunday of every month so there is always next time.
beansforyou 12-02-2008, 18:58 Did it go well then? :)
I'll pm you about a wheel
littleblue 12-02-2008, 19:01 Twas immense!
But people please note - when you're sitting in a car coming home, DO NOT put your damp wool on your lap thinking that it'll be ok. It wont. It will make it look like you've wet yourself.
beansforyou 12-02-2008, 19:04 lol I was on a motorbike when I went on the workshop, and it was gale force winds all the way home!
Empty your inbox :p
littleblue 12-02-2008, 19:08 Inbox emptied!
And I do hope you tied it to your handlebars and let it dry in the wind.
beansforyou 12-02-2008, 19:17 hehe no, but I had to get my father to cart my wheel there and back again in his car
Thank god i've learnt to drive since, I might actually get out to the spinsters this year!
Wool4brains 12-02-2008, 19:25 I had a fantastic two days when I went but I didn't seem to come back with a lot of yarn. I have my samples in a bag somewhere, I made a cabled yarn out of everything that was left on the bobbins and it was interesting to say the least.
You could always spin with a spindle, wheels are not compulsory but you've probably got one for each day of the week and a spare for the weekend by now (and in a couple of years that will seem to you like a perfectly reasonable number to have)

I'e got an Ashford wheel you can borrow and then if you like we could do business about a price. I sort of spun a fleece but wouldn't have been able to knit socks with it. Got carders and some rolags if you need them
littleblue 14-02-2008, 10:32 Do you know, you SF people are lovely - always someone there to come to the rescue.
Thank you so so much :)
