View Full Version : Am I Mad Or Tired? (late night post)
I have just spent about ten minutes studying the word "should" on a post I've just submitted, with great concentration. The more I look at it, the more strange the word seems. It really is an odd word. I am now wondering whether the word will look as odd in the morning. I have not dragged upon a spliff today, nor taken any banned substances. It is, I feel, very much time for bed.
Kristian 27-02-2005, 03:38 As much as I have enjoyed your posts throughout this evening, I have to say Mad! That said; I once developed an obsession with the word 'envelope', and took to shouting it at random to people in various languages, German being my favourite!
Tired, drunk, and going to bed. Oh my god the birds are tweeting!

Sam Miguel 27-02-2005, 12:20 Completely and utterly bonkers, I would say. The signal box is starting to pull the trees up.
I simply must go.
I often have that porblem with words.
I'll actually say it and then repeat it to myself - the more often I repeat it the less sense it makes......

I find that the longer I look at a word, the less it looks like it is spelt correctly...
Me too...
I once couldn't decide whether "had" really was a word, it started sounding more and more daft.

Yup, I can totally relate to that. Try it with 'sausage' and see how long it takes for it not to make sense or look mis-spelt.
;)
its amazing - study any dubious word in the english language and they really do start to seem really strange very quickly.
I am suffering with this kinda problem at the moment... i am trying to spell words but really havent a clue how to...
They can be something really simple but the amount of times i write it i just cant seem to grasp that its right and end up deleting it...
Must be the weather :? :hihi:
Or is the Forum sending us Mad  :help: lol
Ant,
I think if you look at any word for long enough it becomes absurd. I'm definately not dyslexic, but I very occasionally lose the ability to spell something I can normally spell. It is as if my brain has gone to mush.
By the way, glad to see you back on the forum. Hope you got that trouble sorted, and are in fine fettle.

I had the same problem with this word. It is a Welsh railway station, and the more i look the dafter it looks. See what you think.
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysilio gogogoch.
It is a proper word.
Its like the word 'enough'... when your in a rush or not really with it... how the hell do you spell it :help: lol
Enuff? hmmm... doesnt look right to me  this can be one of the words i get confused on... Doh! :loopy:

I once read a posting on a different forum from someone who was 'defiantly not dyslexic'. I'm not dyslexic, damnit!
Anyways, I too have similar problems. I occassionally cannot spell an obvious word (I once agonised for 10 minutes over how to spell 'of') and other times I forget the word completely. It happens most when I'm deprived of sleep.
My particular favourite misspelled words are:
necessary
narcissus
I remember the spelling of necessary from "Words and Pictures". Think of a vicar getting dressed... then try and remember one Collar and two Socks.
Saddo, eh?

A children's programme suggested kids should consider thinking about a vicar in an unclothed state? Where did you go to school? :D
