I've just caught the back end of Golden Balls and watched one women steal £94k from another woman rather than split it.

What a horrible concept to end a quit show with. Perhaps typical of TV these days that "entertainment" should be a priority over a person's respect or mental health.

It was awfully mean.

I'd do the same as her and probably give her like £5k of it. It's a game show, there's nothing malicious about it, she's just playing the game how it was designed to be played.

I've seen the end of it a couple of times, but I watched it all tonight for the first time to work out the rules. I won't watch it again. The older woman was very trusting, perhaps not a good idea to go on a show that is based on being as mean as possible. I felt sorry for her, she obviously thought she'd built up an understanding with the younger woman, who was (to me) very obviously reeling her in. Nasty.

What your saying when you steal though is "I want the lot and I'm prepared to go home with nothing rather than let you have any of it" .

Having said that I wonder how many have been on wanting to split, but they can't trust the other person to do the same, and end up stealing.

Exactly. It's nasty. Entertainment shouldn't be nasty, but it's sad that so much of it is these days.

The older women will take her disappointment, probably even hatred, with her till the end of her days. The younger women WILL eventually live to regret her actions. And all for the sake of our "entertainment". I won't be watching this again.

I've always said that if i was on the show, i'd have to steal. I'm not a mean person in any way but, i couldn't stand the thought of me splitting and the other person stealing it all, so therefore i'd have to steal!

The prisoner's dilema, or game theory as this is, will always in the long run, reward the splitters rather than the stealers. But of course in a one off situation gives the audience the "nasty" scenario that the audience apparently wants these days.

If it was me I would simply tell the other person that I am going to pick up the steal ball, but will split it 50:50 with him/her afterwards, providing they choose split of course. I would like to see a number of people do this, until this nasty part of the quiz is made redundant.
