A great actor, a sad loss.
alchresearch 11-02-2008, 13:01 ITV3 have been showing Jaws over the past couple of weeks, it was really good to see them again.
I also liked him in Blue Thunder.
His movie biography is here: http://imdb.com/name/nm0001702/
Roy was a terrific actor. It was a schock when I heard about his death as I though he was only in his mid-50's, but he was 75! He aged about 5 years between The French Connection and 2007.
BTW his best performance was in 'All that Jazz'. One of the best and most overlooked films of the 70's.

Yeah, it showed you the famous clip from Jaws, and boy was he a good actor. He underplayed every part , adding to the suspense.
Kingmaker2 11-02-2008, 18:34 Roy Scheider was one of those actors where everyone recognises his face but can't always place his name.
Whilst he wasn't an "A" list star niether did he have same acting abilities as say Al Pacinino, but he was always dependable.
He will always be remembered for his role in Jaws and to a lesser extent Blue Thunder.
R.I.P. Roy.
His famous line...." I think we need a bigger boat " Jaws.
RIP Roy - I was watching Jaws 2 last night and hadn't even realised.

It was obviously because of the superb actors Roy Scheider :), Robert Shaw :) and Richard Dreyfuss :).

Spot on. I saw Jaws on ITV3 last week and could happily watch it again. It's a very well made timeless classic.
Read that he turned down the lead in The "Deerhunter", which gave Robert De Niro
recognition. He also wanted to be an athlete or a boxer. His nose got broken, which gave
him a tougher persona for films.
