Hi, I'll be moving to work in Wilmslow later this year as some of you know... been looking at accomadation on the tinternet, but I'm starting to realise its not the easiest thing to do!

I know a few of you mentioned living in that area before, or visiting it... so just wondering if anyone can throw some light onto what areas I should be looking at and any useful info really...

poor student here and all I can find are stupidly expensive 3 bedroomed houses to rent at like £1000+ a month :? I'm just looking for a place to live for a year not to start a family in! lol... a 3/4 bedroom house share or something is all I need... lol... or some random apartment!

I want to try and be within a decent distance of Wilmslow town centre as I dont own a car at the moment, so obviously the further away I am the bigger the chance public transport will be crap and that I'll have to consider getting a car, which I dont want to do straight away as it was my plan to save my money over the year and get myself a nice little run-a-bout car near the end...

thanks for any help, I'm gonna get in touch with the company I'll be working for soon to get some advice from them, but to be honest, getting accomadation sorted as early as possible is a great idea cus then I dont have to worry as July approaches!

Nahh, this isn't Sheffield we're talking about! Manchester and the areas surrounding it into Cheshire have a very good transport system. The trains are frequent and very clean.

To be perfectly honest, there are very few places in the south of the area that are reasonable. Cheadle, Timperley, Sale and Wilmslow are very trendy areas with big price tags to match.

If you're on a budget, you may find that Macclesfield and Stockport are more affordable.

I've got a friend who works at Alderley Edge who's looking to move out of his Manchester apartment into a house closer to work and he's having the same dilemma.

Have you come across easyroommate (http://uk.easyroommate.com/). No idea how good it would be for areas surrounding Wilmslow, but may be worth a try?

I do sympathise Wilmslow is about as exclusive as it gets - and is a different kettle of fish to Sheffield in terms of what sort of accommodation it might offer someone in your situation.

My girlfriend grew up round there and reckons you should probably look at places on the train line to Wilmslow (centre is only 5- 10 minutes walk from the station). Handforth is less posh and quite close? Other areas like Burnage might be worth a look. Although a bit further away and alot less desirable will be much cheaper and more likely to offer houseshares as the Manchester student population spreads there. Levenshulme is another area - not the nicest in the world but on the Wilmslow trainline.

In Stockport areas like Edgeley, Cale Green are not too far from the station and it isn't the biggest hike to Wilmslow from there. Might just possibly be worth contacting Stockport College for advice???

BTW Have you come across Park and Ride by Miranda Sawyer (g/f went to same school) It's a jolly jape about suburbia and has an interesting tilt on the sort of place Wilmslow is.

Best of luck sounds like a great opportunity for you.
