I bought a DVD from HMV a few weeks back.

Just got round to playing it, took the plastic wrapping off the DVD case, and there's a red hard plastic block on the side of the case where you open it from.

Looks like some sort of security thing, but it was on the inside of the plastic wrapper and is an intergral part of the case.

Can't prise it off and don't want to damage the case.
Before I trek back to M'hell, does anyone know what it is or how to get it off?

Its a security thing, theres a strip inserted into the case to lock it you need to take it back to the shop to get it removed.

Did you notice any strange alarm sounds when you left the shop with it :suspect:

Shouldn't it have been removed when I bought it?

Security inside the plastic wrapper's a bit odd isn't it? I thought shops didn't like the wrapper being taken off.

Also, I haven't kept the receipt. What's to stop them thinking I've nicked it?

They may do but are you happy paying for a DVD you can't watch?

If you paid for it by Card you can prove it with statements etc :)

I did pay by either switch or VISA so I'll print off my statements now, but will they accept an anonymous transaction as proof of purchase (ie it only shows I spent £XX at HMV - not what I bought).

Ofcourse you're right, I'm pi$$ed off and guess I better get my coat and pay 'em a visit - what's the inconvenience I've been caused worth in compo do you think?
