Hello,
I have a beautiful female kitten, about six months old. She is lovely and very affectionate but she has a problem with her litter training.
She much prefers to pooh on the sitting room carpet.
I have tried everything I can think of to stop her messing on the carpet but she carries on.
Any ideas on how to stop her?
Please help,
Rachel.

Thank God I never have/had that problem with my two!
Few things you could try...
different types of litter, (the only time I had a bit of trouble with one of mine is when I tried the litter made of sawdust stuff - he didnt like it!)
is the litter box hidden away somewhere quiet? (I'd imagine it is! but cats do like their privacy..)
different type of litter box (mine is a bit like a cave/got a lid - keeps everything clean and the cats use it fine
keep the litter and box really clean (sure you do already)
does she have to share the litter tray?
Try the pet shop - there are sprays which only cats can smell which you can use on carpets to deter this behaviour (I think?)
Someone called pif tail (sp?) posts on here sometimes about cats - do a quick search and send them a PM too.
Good luck...

I shall try these suggestions, thank you x
Anymore ideas anyone?
Pif Tails' website is very informative and has helped us a great deal - we picked up Erica, a two year old female from the RSPCA this morning and we're already armed with plenty of info! He has some very useful information on cat behaviour and plenty of links to other sites that may help.

In regards to your problem, I have heard that feeding a cat on the spot they like to "go" can help stop the problem, as they will not eliminate near food.
Have you tried mixing garden soil with the litter?
Any scent from other animals may encourage her to try to mask it with her own muck. If it works, slowly alter the mix over time till it's all litter.
Failing that, put the muck she leaves on the carpet into the litter tray and leave it for a while in the hopes she takes the hint.
