I am researching my family tree and have discovered that my G.G. Grandad owned/ran a beerhouse at 49/51 Harvest Lane in 1901.

What I`d like to find out is what's the name of the beerhouse he had, I have searched but can`t find the name, does anyone have any idea where I could find this info ?

Thanks Folks

what was his name, try looking on the 1901 census,or even the 1891 census may give you the name of the pub.

Checked the book "A Pub on every Corner" and can't see a pub listed at that address on Harvest Lane. Did the house numbers change after 1901???

As I understand it a beerhouse wasn't necessarily a pub. Just a place where people could buy and drink beer. Often the shopkeeper brewed it themselves on the premises. I think the licensing laws changed a lot between the 19th and mid 20th centuries.

My great great grandfather also used to have a beerhouse on Cemetary Road. There was a lot more beer drinking went on in the "olden days" by the sound of it. When I was young, there seemed to be a shop on every corner and a lot of them were "beer offs" too.

Yes it was no. 1, numbers running away from town, it does look odd but it was on a corner. the back yard ran through to Mowbray street

Got a picture of the old Harrow on Harvest Lane with everything round it demolished.
