On another thread I see that there has been a proposal to change to 7 subs. I have no problem with this but I think another change should be that they are not allowed to occur in the last 5 mins. I know that for years coaches have used late changes as a way of killing of a game or wasting time, but a player gets a booking for time wasting. In the event of a serious injury I would have no problem with a legimate change, but not in the event of laddered tights or torn gloves or mud in their hair as seems to be the current trend.

It bugs me, too; but you'd still have to allow a player to leave the field if injured, and it's not exactly hard for them to fake injury when they want to leave the field just to waste time. I've frequently considered this idea but I see no way of making it work.

Would never work,as Heyesey says,it easy to fake one

3 subs is plenty as far as I can see - otherwise we're going to end up with the American Football situation ........we'll bring on the "defending a corner dee-fense" or the " attacking long throw off - fense".

With advertising breaks.

They'll still only be able to use three, as I understand it - but from a selection of seven, rather than five.

Thats right. They'll still only be allowed to use 3 subs, just they can have 7 on the bench. Is it only in the Premiership though?

No it isnt just in Premiership,is going to be available to all sides IF it goes ahaed, although to be honest i cant see many clubs outside of the Prem having 18 fit players to name

They have been doing this for a while in Spain. Maybe part of the implementation should be for the club to include two players from the clubs youth team, or from the home country of the club.

And I remember the outcry when a second substitute was allowed to be nominated ......

Five on the bench are surely enough, and if nothing else, were this to be extended to the lower divisions and or non-league, where there may not even be 18 registered players, how much pressure would they be under? After all, Middlesboghorror were deducted points for failing to fulfil a fixture due to a lack of players.

Would this extend to the Cups too?

It smacks of another way to interest the USians in the great game. Otherwise known as poppycock.

Age discrimination.

...or from the home country of the club.

Illegal under employment laws.

Either or both would be good ideas; they just aren't allowed any more, good or not.

Age discrimination.

What about if it didn't matter what age they were as long as they did come the that clubs youth team.

Alright then, what about if it didn't matter what nationality they were as long as they had resided in the UK for a period of say 5 or 10 years.

I don't think you'd get away with it. A youth team palpably exists for young players, not old ones.

Still illegal. You may not debar anyone who is an EU citizen from any position. That's why we lost the "three foreigners only" rule in the first place, and it's why football authorities are trying to negotiate with the EU to get it back. I hope they succeed, but I don't think they have much chance.

*I* like your ideas, but the law doesn't.

As I've proffered before, 80 minute-deadline and that is it. Sunday night's added time was a shambles At. Madrid v Bilbao. The play at the opposite side of the field was the one pulled off - well he walked very slowly, and it was one trick after another to waste time. This added period rarely contains any continuity and certainly needs attention.

Age discrimination.

I don't see how this can be the case personally.

We are not stopping people from working, these people are still under employment from their respective clubs.

Illegal under employment laws.

As above. I can't see any reason we can't have restrictions, and I don't take this whole "illegailty" claims.

In case you've forgotten, we used to have restrictions, and they were forcibly removed by the EU. If we try and put them back, the same thing will happen again.

It stinks, but we're stuck with it.

I do recall it yes, but I just don't see any reason how it infringes any rights at all, and if I was a high figure in football I would contest it.

It isn't limiting people job opportunities, it isn't age discrimination, if a player doesn't play he is still in a job and gets contracted and paid.

If it is the case that it is discrimination, then surely if a player isn't picked by the manager, this is also classed as the same and a lawsuit possible?

They did contest it. They lost.
