I'm not really a clubber but have recently seen flyers for Razor Stilleto which looks kinda fun - has anyone been and have and feedback / oppinions?

it's a laugh in as much there are some weird & wonderful people walking about but the only time i went the music was terrible.

Razor Stiletto is a very quirky event. It starts with a couple of "caberet acts" and finishes with gandi & ralph playing some excellant 80's tunes. You cant pigeon hole Razor, just go with a VERY open mind, and you'll have a beano.

ps....average age is twenty/thirty something....;)

Call me cynical, but if smearing yr head in **** and chanting "I'm a ****head I'm a ****head" was considered cool, you can guarantee he'd be doing it.

Performance are ace as well, I have been told Adam Sky wil be playing with a full band, I just wish that I wasnt playing at the Leadmill on the same night or else I would definatly be there, I will see how it goes.

I went on Saturday too, and thought it was ace. My second time now.

My first time on saturday, was impressed. I'm a technohead but it was good to go to something different that wasn't generic like shedmill or corporation.

I've heard (& read) good things about Razor Stilleto and am looking to try a new night (I may die if I have to go to the Corp again) can anyone give me more info on Raxor Stilleto......is it a monthly "night" or more regular? What're the people like?

Ive been going to Razor for about a year now. Its a fantastic club - great venue, good mixed crowd, a lot of glamorous people so if you like to dress up - go for it !! You dont HAVE to though.

It's on the first Saturday of every month, 10:30pm-3am. Costs about £6/7 (you can buy advance tix) There are always 2 or 3 acts/bands on, bands normally electro or rock/indie-ish. Bigger names have been appearing more recently though (as compared to a lot of local/up-and-coming bands previously) Ive seen Mark Moore DJ there recently, and Adamski and Siobhan (Bananarama/Shakespeares Sister) play live. Next week, Pink Grease are playing , as are Kings Have Long Arms. Phil Oakey of the Human League is guest DJ.

Music played varies - Ghandi DJs first, and plays mostly 80s stuff, but *gasp* NOT always the obvious/album tracks, which is a nice change ! Ralph DJs after the bands, and plays a mad mixture of 80s/disco/electro/indie/rock & general cheese.

Theres a great atmosphere - id HIGHLY recommend it :)

See, I enjoyed the times I went, but I think there's too many people there who suck their belly in (and their cheeks) and take it a tad serious....it's a laugh like, and some quality tracks, but irony is only good for so long, unless you yourself are the irony, then you don't realise, and think (warning horrible word coming up) you're "uber" cool.....shudder.

It is fun tho', I may trundle down for the next one, should be a hoot.

Don't worry so much about what other people are doing/being/trying-to-be, just you worry about enjoying yerself ;)

i love razor, i think its one of the best nights around. no one takes themselves too seriously and it's always a laugh....
the after party is always worth a look as well, uoi're guaranteed to come away with some new friends.

Musey - don't worry too much about it. There are a lot of people who dress *glammy* - from corsets to glitter to sequins, leather, lace blah blah, but there are also t-shirts and jeans too. A few goths, a few trendies. a few indies, a few rockers blah blah. I personnally havent experienced any snobbery/attitude, neither have any of my friends'/associates, which is refreshing after me having lived in London for 6 years ;)

I dunno if theres a gallery, you could always ask on the Razor forum. Ralph and Ghandi both post on there regularly.

i always wear jeans & t-shirt......no one ever makes me feel im not glam etc.

everyone at razor is there for the laff....

and a right giggle u can have.

Thanks for that, I have the tendancy towards the glam and like to be able to dress up when I go to a club so thats just what I wanted to hear.

Probably one of the best nights out in Sheffield if you like eclectic electronica, getting drunk and dressing up... though you can have fun even if you don't!

This weeks Razor Stilleto looks ace, with both Pink Grease and Kings Have Long Arms on the bill... expect exciting wobbly noises, audience abuse, bondage gear and big afros.

I saw KHLA when they supported The Sheffield Stylophone Orchestra at Razor Stilleto last year... or was that the other way round?

Well I went and bought my ticket for Saturday and am looking forward to it. Now all I have to decide is what to wear lol

shamefully i have never been...still trying to go as i have been doing since it first started .... im sure that when i do eventually get to go, it will be marvelous!

come this month....its the 2nd birthday and Phil Oakey is djing aswell.........its an absolute giggle.

unfortuneately i have exams and am self barred from partying until after the 10th... from then on however, i will be out in full force to socialise my way through the summer :)

I was just wondering - I would really like to go to Razor Stiletto tonight but have never done so before and I was just wondering:

a) Can I still get tickets or how much more is it on the door

b) Would a 42 year old guy not in goth gear just normal casual clothes get in as I really really love music especially 80s/synth/human league etc and I am a bit of an artist also :-)

Patrick - its not a goth club !! A few gothy types go, and a lot of people dress up glammy, but no, you dont have to. Its £9 in advance if you can get to Jacks Records or Ultra Vixen (both on Division street) so it will be about £10/11 on the door id guess. You should arrive early to guarantee entry, as it gets busy very quickly these days :)

I'm soooooooooooooo looking forward to it. Outfit is planned so I can have a nice kip now and get ready to dance the night away!!

I was just about to post and ask if any newbies went, and what did they think ?

It was brilliant :) Not as much 80s music as i'd have liked (it varies from month to month) but its a great atmosphere and the bands were fab.

TECHNO KEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOW fab & funny ??? Classic !

Only turned up towards the end of Pink Grease's set... they looked a bit squashed up on that stage compare to when I saw them at the NMB... they need room to throw themselves around methinks... sounded great though!

KHLA were hilarious as always, much fun was had by one and all, especially during the conga! I particularly enjoyed seeing my Stylophonic pal Rich in his new silver mac and usual pigeon hat.

And the music afterwards was great... well worth the £11 entry even though I got there a bit late...

Mind, I was well oiled from the Devonshire Jam (fantastic!), The Washington (until they ran out of beer), and 20 minutes in Scuba (ZZZZZzzz).

Altogether now...

Newbie to Razor Stilleto here and I went on Saturday. I loved the atmosphere and the people were all dead nice n friendly. Seeing Pink Grease & Kings Have Long Arms was great - really enjoyed them, but I was disappointed by the lack of 80s music though.

I'll give it another try though if only for the fact I can glam up to whatever extreme I feel the urge to reach.

Yeah, sometimes its an 80s fest, sometimes not. I prefer the 80s stuff myself, but i still find it enjoyable regardless. There are normally only 2 or 3 bands/acts maximum, so plenty more dancing time. Ghandi DJs from the start, and plays mostly 80s stuff up til and in between the bands :)

I cant go next month, and am gutted, as a band that i recommended are playing :(

the question on my mind is, who was Emily, was was dancing on the raised area around 4am...

Damn it I'm sorry I didnt go now - sounds like you all had a marvellous night - I will have to be the newbie on the next occasion its on and write a critique on here ...
