Hello. I have just come across your post on-line. I know it was posted some time ago now, so you may not see this.... My grandmother was Edith Ambler, who married Willie Bradshaw.

Don't know if there is any connection - but when I started work in the late 1940's I worked for Mellowes in Corporation St. and there was a Nurse Ambler in the first aid room. She tended to me once when I scalded by hand rather badly. She was a kind a caring person.

There was a garage/filling station on Wincobank Avenue near its junction with Shiregreen Lane, it was called Amblers i think it was run by a tall man who was almost bald and always wore a brown boiler suit. I remember it from the early sixties i think it closed in the nineties.
Dont know anyones name but i hope it may help.

My great grandmother was called Mary Ambler and lived at Crooks. Her daughter (my grandmother) was Ellen Ambler and lived on Walkley Street. Her brothers were Colin and Harry, also at Walkley. I have a number of photos of them all.

Oddly enough, my former neighbour Roy Redfern also worked at Mellowes (although about 10-15 years later) and he married Anne Ambler - they live in Hillsborough and celebrated their Golden Wedding last year. Anne and her brother Sam were the children of Frank Ambler and grandchildren of Jim Ambler of Low Road, Woodland View.

That was Clara Ambler of 70 Bowness Road; she died in 1988 aged almost 90.
