View Full Version : The minute's silence
freyasdad 08-02-2008, 12:16 Do we think that the minutes silence thing for the Munich disaster is going on a bit too much?
We all know what happened, we all know it was a tragedy but it has been on sky sports all week and now they are complaining about the behaviour of England fans on wednesday.
Man u fans taunt the scousers about hillsbro at every game yet as far as i am concerned have not had any bad press.
As for England again they openly taunt other fans with their dislike of the England scene like they did at the lane last year so what is the difference.
I think that the only reason the silence was justified on Wednesday was that it was actually the anniversary of the crash. If it was the day after the anniversary or whatever then I don't think that it would have been warranted at an England match. Obviously Manchester United will mark the anniversary more openly, in the same way as Liverpool marks Hillsborough and Juventus marks Heysel stadium.
Whether they're your fans that died or those of another club, I still think that fans should have the manners to allow the marking of these occasions without jeering or being disrespectful.
EDIT- moved to general sports BTW.
CHAIRBOY 08-02-2008, 14:10 Is it just too much to ask of people to be silent for one minute to show respect for players who once participated in the sport we love? I also suggest people remove their headwear during the respect!

You know just as well as I do that there are certifiable morons in every club's fan base. As pointed out in a previous thread on the subject, Manchester United themselves are not free of them; there's always a few willing to taunt Liverpool fans about how the Hillsborough disaster didn't kill off enough of them. No doubt there will be a few people, standing under the banner of Man City fans, who will jeer and shout during the silence on Sunday (Saturday?) for no better reason than it will annoy the Red Devils.
flowerf1 09-02-2008, 19:33 yes i agree its all to much their is nothing like this happens with all the other people that lost their lives in any sport its all because it happen to man utd like youm said they dont do this with victims of the hillsborough tragdy or the bradford fire in were was it 25 people died all thy got a metion that it was the 25 years since its was the last time the two teams meet
Robbie Loving 09-02-2008, 21:51 I don't understand why us Blades had a one minutes silence at our game at all.
I can understand having it ON the anniversary, and for the teams involved too, but not at a club who has no relevance to it at all.

Looks like they managed to annoy them just that little bit more today. 2-1 win for Man City at Old Trafford. I'm lovin' it! :D

Thoroughly deserved too, Man Utd were poor.
Well, at least the manchester derby minute silence went okay- and rightly so.

yeah but did you see what Fergie was saying in the papers today. Something along the lines of who decided that we play Manchester City on the anniversary of the disater. They could have chosen Middlesborough or someone like that. Not only does fergie want to decide when teams get penalties against them and how many minutes extra time are played, he now wants to organise their fixture list

True. There were some bangs outside the ground, apparently from idiots setting off fireworks - but inside, near enough perfect.
