My (4 ish year) old TomTom software seems to be getting out of date, more and more frequently I've come across junctions it doesn't know about and changes in traffic flow etc it doesn't know.

Am I right in thinking the newer TomTom software/devices allow updates to be applied to the maps?

If so, is this a subscription (paid for) service, limited by time since buying or unlimited perpetual service?

What do TomTom call this update service? So I can look for it in the feature lists!

Download TomTom home, and conenct your device to your PC. You will then get MapShare.

You can also download complete new maps but these cost (£40 i think?)

I'm not convinced the TomTom version I'm using would understand what it should be doing, but it's gotta be worth a go

Why would I want to spend £40 on new maps if mapshare can update my existing setup?

Only for One + Go it seems... mine predates them! :(
Any idea if this mapshare thingy is a subscribtion or permantly free service?

The mapshare feature on the newer tomtom systems is free no subscription required.
But I suspect when tomtom bring out a newer version (tomtom 7 is due soon) they will no doubt at some time stop support for the older version to make you upgrade.

The customer support on www.tomtom.co.uk is excellent, often responses within 24 hours and very concise and to the point. Once you raise an issue with them, they can't do enough to help you and give you feeback facility if what they've told you doesn't work. Try phoning or emailing them, they are very helpful and don't take forever to answer on the support lines.
