Reading a posting on another thread by Pontious prompted me to write this re Dog & partridge Trippit lane. I called in last week at lunchtime on one of my rare trips into town. The outside was exactly the same as I remembered it when I used to be a regular in the late 1970's but I didn't think for one minute that the inside would also be untouched.

It was a fantastic experience to sit in 'my' old seat and drift back nearly 30 years. Even the landlady is the same one whose been there 32 years. The Guinness was just as perfect as ever.

The only down side was all the smoke which I can't tolerate anymore.

There can't be many more real pubs like this left in the city or am I wrong. :(

Theres a few Mo, but not many. If I venture into town now at the weekend it usually to the dog (packed to the rafters) The Grapes, Fagans, Red Deer. I'm not what you might call ancient but these places still attract real people and characters and in the case of the dog, lively music!

It seems some on here enjoy their plastiky, pine floored, chromed, bottle swilling palaces but give me the REAL places anyday!!

Did you see what they did to the Hallamshire on West St???:o

Come on Mo, you can't have forgotten the wobbly wooden stairs to the outside loo? They've gone, but thankfully not much else has changed including Ann, the landlady.

They gutted most pubs about 5-6 years ago and gave them all irish names and yet has nothing to do with irish culture such as playing live music.

Some of the victims on west street.

Hornblower
Mailcoach
Halamshire

WHat a fine relaxed interestin place to spend an hour or so ...

I work just around the corner and find this one of the best places to wind down, dont get me wrong i do like bars such as Sola, Halcyon etc. but for a relaxed drink with good conversation and no hassle where better....
The Tetleys handpulled is sublime aswell....

What a fine boozer !

Started going in D&P around 1978 and can't honestly remember the toilets being anywhere other than where they are now.

I also loved this Dog and Partridge but I loved best the Dog up Attercliffe Road. Rockabilly nights on a Friday and the rest of the week I don't know what went on?
