Hi everyone. I'm a student doing a
dissertation about the rise of time saving
services such as domestic cleaners and
lifestyle managment services, and I was just
wondering if there are any women out there
who use them, or would use them and why? Or
if theres anyone out there who just simply
does not have time, I would like to know
why?,maybe you feel pressured from work or
even daily life. Or maybe you just enjoy the
finer things in life and don't see any reason
for cleaning or perfoming menial tasks
yourself. Whatever the reason, I would love
to know. Thanks everyone.

at the risk of getting non-sexist about this

Mr Strix and I decided that it was more economical to have the car valeted as he spent much of his time at the weekend working overtime for an attractive rate.

If he cleaned the car himself, it cost us four times as much in real terms, and wasted twice the time which we had so little of together.

I do have an 'ironing Lady' occasionally as I find this task unbearable. It takes up so much time that I could be utilizing to do other things.

I would have a cleaner if I could trust one in my home, though to be honest I LOVE cleaning and doing the housework, I find it relaxing and it gives my mind a rest from everyday work!

I find it is quicker to wet shave using cheap disposable razors than it is to shave using my Philishave electric one that cost about £20!!!

Err.....but that's not what you wanted to know is it:(

I would LOVE to have a cleaner! Unfortunately can't afford one yet but if I ever could I would definitely have a cleaner.

Although with that being said I'm so obsessive compulsive I'd probably find something they had done not quite right and then just do it all myself anyway. And I wonder why my friends call me Monica...

Slightly off topic, but a while ago I read a book called "The Internet Weather" (silly title, but very good book), which talked about the increasing rarity (and hence value) of time. I've written a review of it which is on my website:

It might provide some interesting points for your dissertation.

got to admit I am thinking of employing someone to do my ironing. The reasons behind this are:

1) I hate ironing
2) I work long hours all week day /evening and most of Sunday, I would rather spend my saturday afternoon enjoying myself than ironing
3) I can afford to get someone else to do it
4) I am useless at ironing
5) my partner also works similar hours so cannot do it for me

reasons why I have not got around to employing someone:

1) It would make me feel lazy and look lazy
2) As a teacher I have long holidays so it would not be a regular income for someone to take the job on as I would have the time to do it during the holidays
3) I'd feel odd having someon else with my clothes
4) I laugh at my mates who have cleaners

hope this helps!

We have a cleaner and it's basically because we both hate doing it - what's the point of doing something you hate if you don't have to :) Saves on the arguments and she does a better job than both of us :D
