My Dad has asked if I could I knit him some fingerless gloves after seeing the fetchings as he could do with some for work. However the fetchings are a bit girly for him and he does have a larger hands so they won't fit him anyway.
Have you any suggestions for a pattern for good manly fingerless gloves that won't be too hard to knit, please. Ta.

You could do something like the fetchings but just do ribbing instead of the cables - I seem to remember that someone on here did something like that. Does he want it to have half fingers or it being open on the fingers like a fetching?
I don't know to be honest. He works in and out of buildings all day, and finds locking up with fingers a pain. So I guess either would be okay - although after seeing how you did your fingered gloves, I'm not sure I'm up to doing them just yet!!
Gempud did manly fetchings and swapped the cables for rib and knitted them in a bigger size. Perhaps she can let us know how many stitches she cast on?

What about Dashing (http://knitty.com/ISSUEspring07/PATTdashing.html) from Knitty? They've even got a manly cable!

If you want something super quick and easy, just knit an oblong that will fit around his hand, then sew up the seam, leaving a gap for the thumb.
KNit flat and rib the first and last inch or so.

They are nice - though am I sensing that you are wimping out of doing fingers:nono:
I like the dashing's and I also like Beans' idea to. Very simple and no need to cable, should be done quite quickly. Will have to have a quick chat with my Dad to check he wants the total fingerless gloves or not.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
I really can't remember how many stitches I cast on for my manly fetchings! I don't think it was that much more than the normal pattern calls for though...only about 5 more or something. I did ribbing on the cuff (maybe 2x2), and then did bigger ribbing for the main part of it, then reverted back to 2x2 ribbing to bring it a little tighter at the end near the fingers. I do remember that somewhere along the way I had to decrease or increase a stitch so that I had the right amount for the ribbing. Oh, and I didn't do the picot edging. Apparently they are really good for my dad who is a market stall trader and he is still wearing them a year and a bit on.

"wimping out?" How very dare you! I'll have you know I might just be casting on for a glove type thing later on this evening. :o
