This past week has seen what's usually a poor road get worse. Roadworks have sprung up in a number of sites on this road, outbound from the city. None of these works have warning lights, signs or any sort of stability. This must be illegal by whoever has dug the road up.

These barriers have been smashed down every night by either vandals or the wind, and blocking half the road. What makes it worse is that parking on the other side is still allowed at night, so jams are occurring. This, added to the illegal parking on the double yellows further down the road outside the take-aways make driving down this road a nightmare.

My suggestions;

Get these roadworks properly and legally marked, with lights and better warnings.

Make sure they are secure and not able to blow over the other side of the road.

Separate the road to two directions by using the bus lane for downward traffic.

Stop parking in the above mentioned bus lane.

Clamp down on parking further down the road outside the takeaways.

All simple requests but together they would stop frustration and make this road a lot safer.

Are you
actually going to do something about this are you just going to come on here and moan ?

Contact sheffield city council as they are the highway authority and even if they are not there road works they have the statatory duty to deal with them.

where are these works as there as been road works on London road for some time in connection with water services

Perhaps the OP was unaware of how to complain officially?

And half the posts on here are "unnecessary" as people get things off their chest, and why not, those roadworks are a nuisance - perhaps a necessary nuisance but a nuisance nontheless.

The works start about half way up London Road on the left hand side outbound from the city centre and continue up to just before the bottom of Sharrow Lane - and 2 of them protrude about 3/4 of one carriageway. And as the OP states, they are poorly lit, with a lack of advance warning signs about road narrowing, and having sprung up recently without any temporary parking restrictions to aid traffic flow, they are a pain.

Especially in the rush hour where people still insist on parking opposite the dug up road in the bus lane during the parking restriction hours!

The works are being carried out by Balfour Beattie on behalf of Yorkshire Water.

Yorkshire Water may be contacted by dialling 0845 1 24 24 24 from any normal telephone, and they will pleased to hear your opinion of their contractors standard of work.

I notice the first large hole today had cones around to narrow the opposite side of the road to a single lane, allowing a 2-way flow of traffic - a new addition and a mild improvement

No preceding "road narrows" signs though, it is rather poor.

Agree the road is a total mess.
