My Georgie is now about 6 months old. I was playing with him this morning and noticed one of his bottom "fang" teeth was protruding from his mouth. When I looked closer the same tooth at the other side is very small and only just growing whereas this one is very long. It is loose and wobbly. Tonight I've just checked again and the roots are sticking out too, and now I can see a small tooth equal in size to the small one, growing where the loose one should be.
So, do kittens have milk teeth?

Yes kittens have milk teeth, its just very unusual to actually see them come out :)

Thanks Moonbird, that makes me feel better. He was asleep on my knee just now so I thought I'd try taking a pic - but the tooth was on my knee. It looks like it might have broken as there is no root on it. He got fed up of me trying to look and shot out of the house. Poor baby!
Hi Joey
Yes, kittens have milk teeth and just like human teeth the roots are reabsorbed prior to the teeth falling out. The bottom canines are usually the first teeth to grow an adult set and usually the milk ones fall out just as the adult set start to grow so it may appear that they've not got a bottom canine (or both) for a week or two.
By contrast, the upper canines usually happen with the adult tooth growing alongside the milk tooth until the adult one is through properly, then the milk one is pushed out, so if you curl back Georgie's lip you may well see that he's got 2 sets of upper canines at the moment. It's unusual to see the kitten fangs when they come out, but it's even more unusual to find the tiny front teeth or tiny molars when they fall out. They usually all fall out in less than a week, unlike the human 'one at a time' model.
Billy's mouth looks SO sore this week because all of his adult molars are just trying to come through and his milk teeth have just come out so his gums are very red. He's got very fed up of me looking into his mouth to check what's going on in there too.
My kitten Bailey is 4 and a half months old. 1 of his top tooth came out today, I just saw him licking his mouth, and a little red thing on his fur.
I just wanted to check this was all normal, as previously moonbird said it was rare to see. It is on the top left of his mouth, 1 of the big ones that humans have, the ones used for biting.
Many thanks
Four and a half months is quite early for the canines to come out, but as long as there is an adult one coming through to take its place and there's no major bleeding then it's nothing to worry about. He probably ragged it while he was playing.
Many thanks Medusa.
He's not distressed or anything, so I will keep an eye on it.
It's raskel by the way, as I couldn't be bothered to log out of scarby's account. :)
