Hi chums.
Having trouble finding a nice hotel in Barcelona at the end of February. They all seem either miles out of the centre of activity or over priced in relation to what they offer or the decor is really 70's. Oi know the decor shouldn't really matter, but I'd like somewhere a bit rustic, authentic spanish, charming, characterful, olde-worldy.
Anyone been and where did you stay?

I won a competition on Sky and stayed in Hotel Calderon it was very very posh.

I've stayed at Hotel Espana twice, most recently just last month.
It's a listed building as it's a great example of Modernisme which is a Catalan version of Art Noveau. It has four restaurants which are reasonably priced and one in particular is beautiful.
It's also about two minutes from La Rambla (nearest underground stop is Liceu) so really handy for getting around.
I got a great deal through Go2Spain (www.go2spain.co.uk) in January - if you book with the hotel directly it costs more.

Hope this helps :)

Didn't stay in a hotel, we rented a holiday appartment about 5 mins from the Ramblas, near the Contemporary Art museum. It was lovely. No idea how much it cost though - mum paid ;)

www.booking.com at least 300 hotels on here for barcelona and you dont pay till you arrive. I use this site no matter where I go and I cannot praise it enough. Never had any problems.

Thanks for those recommendations guys, both sites are looking good for now. I'm just trawling through. Booking.com is getting me rather excited.
Rude, I tried alpharooms, thank you, but apart from the Barcino I couldn't find anything I liked. And I'm going to Barcelona for a break you tinker, not to wreck my liver and come back wasted :hihi:
Hey Minx  I looked at apartments but they were either unavailable or out of price range. I like that idea though.

I think alpharooms might have come up trumps actually. I initially wanted rustic, old fashioned, charming, but there are a couple of 4* places that are really rather glamorous. And the beds are huge :D
Look at this (http://www.booking.com/hotel/es/987-barcelona.en.html)
I know this is booking.com but the pics are better :)
