Any tour guides out there?
Can someone suggest a typical topical day out in Sheffield for someone who has never been here before [and for a tour guide who doesnt have a car]
I thought of a 'town tour' - town hall, cathedral, university....
and an out of town tour - ski village... and a tram tour...to meadowhall or rothervalley...
Any suggestions people

You could go two ways really, old history, or modern? when my family came over from America we did the countryside, i can understand that that isn't exactly Sheffield but there is a bus to castleton from ecc road. Kelham Island is good, its a bit of sheff history and there is the Fat Cat pub near by too! to go modern then i would defo go to the ski village, ive been dying to see it since it was 'done up' but i haven't had time. other places like the city hall and western park museum are under scaffolding and closed! and there are places like Bishops House and Abbeydale Hamlet (not sure of the opening dates though).
For evening then a play at the Crucible or Lyceum.

Prod this (http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/out--about/tourist-information/visitor-attractions) and use the menu on the left hand side to see the categories of places to visit

Yeah, it took me several attempts.
The council sites can be like wading through treacle sometimes.
I had difficulty finding the traffic cameras on a different PC today as it wasn't on my favourites list there

Try the Five Weirs Walk out to Meadowhall. It doesn't take too long and you can get the tram back into town.
I took some Japanese friends out on it to Rotherham on bikes - they loved it, especially when we stopped at the place where they filmed the early canal scene in 'The Full Monty' which was a big hit in Japan.

You have got to be kidding! I cycled to Meadowhall on that route and it not too short either lol...
The poor guy is only here for a day..I dont wanna kill him. Plus I am sure the old petrol station that used to be near the Primose Hill/Langsett stop was in the Full Monty too! Will show him that as the tram drives past :heyhey:

You're kidding! I've walked it in a little over an hour, it must take about 10 minutes to cycle.
