I wonder if anyone has any advice for me - my cat has recently stated doing this and its not just spraying, its a big wee each time. :o He is a neutered male and is 12 years old and is in good health. We have two other cats and they all get on ok (apart from the occasional bout of handbags)

I just don't know why he has started doing this - he even does it it front of me!

Please help before I run out of kitchen roll and dettox....

Afew years ago we had two cat's, as well as my tortie we had a big fat tabby who was a rescue cat (had been mistreated prior and had a very jumpy temprement) she was fine once she settled in with us, but would never go out and would only 'go' in the tray.
When baby was born she reverted back to a bag of nerves, wouldnt come out from under the bed, started to chew all her fur out then she started to wee everywhere. I took her to the Vet, he seemed to think it was stress induced cystitus. He gave her some medication for it, she never seemed to get over the new arrival to the house and we had to find her a nice quiet home, so sadly she no longer lives with us :(
I wonder if your cat has cystitus? the Vet did say that one of the syptoms was weeing where ever the urge took her

Hmmm interesting - he did have cystitis a month ago though his behaviour is different this time. With the cystitis he would try and wee every 10 mins or so and only produce a few drops of urine. I wonder if he had just got into the habit of going wherever he wants?

Thanks or your reply - I will keep an eye on him.

Usually it's stress that makes cats wee in the house isn't it, but if it's a big, proper wee, with no reasons for new stress, it's probably something for the vet to take a look at? Let us know how you get on......

youd be suprised how much they can spray. Can be a problem in multi-cat households and can start and stop for no reason. You'll need to thoroughly scrub the areas he's marking otherwise he'll return to them to mark again.

DITCH THE DETTOX! Dont use disinfectant - it tends to encourage them to do it all the more: wash curtains or soft furnishings in a solution of washing powder n warm water. You can use urine /odour products such as Simple Solution, Safe4Pets or Urine Off . Invest in a steam cleaner to remove lasting odours from carpets. Try a Feliway diffuser to calm your cat down- he obvously feels the need to mark his territory occasionally to reassure him that it's still his - this could be because he's competing with other cats in the home, or because some other stresser is present (someone has joined the family/left the family? Changes in his life?) If its showing no signs of clearing up, try thje vets to see if he's still having urinary problems, although usually cats with cystitis tend to squat uncomfortably and strain when trying to wee ,rather than pointing at the curtains and spraying full blast!
