Hi. This is a really long shot. When I was young (about 30 years ago)! My Aunt used to buy me magic colouring books, from Redgates. They wernt the ones where you put water on them and colour appears, they were blank pages and you rubbed them with your pencil and pictures appeared.

I loved them and now I have a two year old who would also love them If I could find one for him.

We have encounted the water ones and they were rubbish, colurs really bland he soon got bored with that.

Can anyone remember the name of the books, so I can search on net, or has anyone seen any for sale recently.

I certainly do remember them! No idea what they were actually called (sorry!) but I loved them during my younger years. (about the same time as you)

I remember both types of book, the "paint with water" ones, and the "rub your pencil over the page and the pic appears". my sister and I loved those. I STR they were called "magic painting books" and "magic drawing books"

I bought my grandkids a great colouring book from Asda, a little while ago, which was like a "Dry-wipe" board, with dry-wipe type pens, which the child could use to colour in the pic, and then wipe it clean and do it all over again. they were fun, you could use the markers on the page to play noughts and crosses and allsorts.

gosh i remember these. i'm 22. my little girl has had a few of the painting ones from skegness market but haven't seen the others for years. i'll keep my eyes open now though x

Try googling 'Hawkins bazaar' on Google.It's an old fashioned toy company and has all things like the books you mention.If they haven't got such a thing on their website, email them and they might be able to locate some for you.Hope that helps.

They sell them at our local DIY shop on Derbyshire Lane!

Yes they were great, you can still get them i buy them for my daughter, and yes, she puts too much water on them just like I used too!

crayola do magic colouring books where the felt tips only work on the special colouring book.....think the packs are called colour wonder or something like that, asda sell them and they are usually on sale.

Just found this - a do it yourself version!!

There are many different ways to make invisible ink. We'll suggest one here and then you can experiment with others on your own.
To start, mix together equal amounts of salt and hot water. (Two spoonfuls of each should work well.)
Dip the cotton swab in the salt mixture and write a message or a picture on a piece of white paper.
Let the ink dry. When it dries, your message should be invisible. Show it to a family member to see if they can read your message.
Now you can show your parent the trick to reading your secret message. Rub your pencil gently over the area where you know you wrote your message. Can you see it now?

Paint with water ones were the best! I remember going to the Post Office to buy one when I was little and when walking home it started to rain and the book got drenched so all the pictures were already coloured in for me! :D

I`ve bought both from there.
The shop is called LUDLOWS, I will call in on Monday and see what they`ve got.

Just been into the diy shop and they only have the magic painting ones although I have bought pencil ones from there before.
Rachel that owns the shop said someone had seen this thread and already been in looking for them, so I`m assuming one of you guys have already been:D
I`m sure she`ll have a look at the warehouse next time she goes, they are very good like that!

I think Early Learning Centre had these. I think they did one were you rub a coin over a page and a pic emerges.

Yes Lyndix it was me! They were really friendly people. bought other stuff while in there as well, they were impressed their shop had appeared on Sheffield Forum.

I have ordered some from the link on here to Dover books, there are los to choose from, so if they arrive ok, maybe i could buy loads and sell them!
