In view of what actually happened here, the jokey posts have been removed from this thread.

Please bear in mind that friends and family of the man who was knocked down could be reading this when you reply to the thread.

That's awful, and a hit 'n run too. There was another one further down on Deerlands Ave a year or so ago where a woman was hit and killed by a speeding idiot as she got out of her car.

Do these people have no conscience at all? :(

They only seem have a conscience when they are caught.

I came out from the afterparty at Upstairs after a fantastic night at Razor Stiletto in DQ to find the whole street cordoned off and a crashed car upside down in the middle of the road with its headlights still on. Fortunately, by that time, the occupants of th car had been extricated and taken to hospital, and the police let me retrieve my bike which I had locked to a lamppost just inside the cordoned off section of street.

I searched for a thread about that accident, but could find none, so I hope it is OK to mention it here.

Anyone know any more details about what happened?

Hi,

An 85 year old gentleman was knocked down and killed after visiting his wife who lives in the old peoples home on Elm Lane. It was a hit and run. Details of the accident are in tonights Sheffield Star,

Hope they get who did it, although the car was found abandoned nearby, so if its 'joyriders' nothing much will be done,

Lets hope he rests in peace and that his poor wife doesnt follow him to heaven with a broken heart,

Lisa.

Given that it was a hit and run where an elderly pedestrian was killed, I'd question your assertion that "nothing much will be done".

The Star article. (http://www.thestar.co.uk/headlines/Witness-plea-after-OAP-killed.3742821.jp)

Tyranna, it was me who allowed you to retrieve your bike from the lamp-post just inside the cordon....small world, eh?

For obvious reasons, I can't say much about what happened - other than to say that the driver was discharged from Hospital later that day.

In response to a contribution re the original thread, stating that "not much will be done", I can assure the poster that a huge amount to trace those responsible is already being done.

I didn't mean that nothing would't be done in that context, i meant nothing would be a big enough punishment for the hit and run driver as today's justice system is not hard enough on people that do this sort of thing. My heart goes out to his family.

Police are circulating a description of a Chinese/far eastern looking man in busy centres, can anyone tell me if this is correct?

RIP the old bloke and my heart goes out to his wife, what type of moron would just take off and leave him dying on the road?
