Lets hope that maybe that Hen and Chickens has now cleaned up its act from its previous operation...
Maybe the new Management would like to promote the 'reformed; Hen and Chickens here?
Assume it IS reformed that is??

There is one good thing about it re-opening, and that is if all the reprobates are in one place you know there not distributed in the other pubs. You also know where to go to get your gear back if you get robbed :oP

Good on them, hope it works out. With any luck it will save the pub from suffering the same fate as the Cannon.

But where will all the scummers move on to....

Well those barred scumbags ain't coming HERE!!!! We cleaned up the Dove from November 2006 and barred a considerable number of drug taking losers and morons who used to drift across from the Hen and Chicken and the old Cannon pub..under the former management a lot of druggies and morons were coming in, but that stopped from day one.....when you get barred from the Dove it's for life and no exceptions.....now if only places like the bankers Draft would clear out some of their morons, this part of town might be even more pleasant than its rapidly becoming.

Well done to the Hen and Chickens........that is what i like to see, a good firm approach! maybe we can rid town for good of all these scumbags if everyone bars them for life!

My daytime Manager and staff are under strict orders to evict any 'scumbags' with no exceptions....because only be ridding yourself of all the gross social misfits can you get a decent and popular pub where anyone can come and feel right at home and totally safe, 100% of the time. Maybe some pubs feel they cant bar too many people else they will lose too much custom, but what does that say about the type of pub it is and whom it is Dependant on for custom? I would rather not have a pub at all than have one full of scum....

The landlord was a class 'A' drug user for 24 years and has been clean now for 5 years. They have got rid of all the drug dealers and now offer advise and help to other users.

I take my hat of to them and wish them the best of luck for the future. I'll pop in for a pint, it's a proper pub and there's not many left.

Popped in friday and it was alright. Him and his partner came across as really nice. Best of luck to them.
It will be good to see a refurb.

My partner and I decided to venture into the Hen and Chickens this lunchtime. I have to report it was a very pleasant experience. The food was reasonably priced and nice, as was the beer. The staff were friendly and polite. The cliental were nothing out of the ordinary, mainly shoppers.

We shall definitely go back again, especially for lunch. The pub is greatly improved since I last ventured in and I think it deserves a chance to attract a new clientele and thrive as a welcome "proper" pub in the city centre.

My god it is good to hear that a pub at that end of town is now taking a stand and getting rid of the scum. I like the Dove And Rainbow landlords attitude, but it needs all the pubs in that area to take the same attitude. Good luck to The landlord/lady of the hen and chicks may have to venture in and take a look.

A friend of mine once went in here. Someone was hoovering and the hoover was smoking and it smelt of mushrooms!

If only the council would clean up the street outside the pub may look more inviting.

As a teenager in the 1960s, I would go there with my parents for a meal at least one evening a week. The food was superb and you met an interesting if somewhat colourful clientel. The landlord was a little fat chap with a high pitched voice, but he would tolerate no nonsense.

It was a good night out. I remember also a huge platter with a silver salmons head and tail where they left a side of salmon on the back bar. It wouldn't last 5 minute these days.

I too hope they turn the place round. My parents went there through choice driving into Sheffield specially to visit the pub. They were happy to park an Aston Martin in the lane outside knowing it would come to no harm.

I went to the Boardwalk on Sunday night. Some nutter was at the end of Water Lane shouting his head off and swearing at passers by. He was swinging chains around. I wouldn't park a 20 year old Lada down there at the moment.

Let's hope it turns out well.
