View Full Version : Music generator - recommend a band old and new...
EdnaKrabappe 30-01-2008, 18:16 Cressida's post about the Arctic Monkeys got me thinking last night, we should recommend bands to each other. In my case, I'm in need of some new bands to like and go watch:rolleyes::D...
I have noone to reccommend to but this is what YOU should do:
Recommend a band that's new to the person above you based on their tastes: (As I have noone to recommend to):

Recommend an old band/artist again based on the person's taste.. (The past artist i am recommending:) (As i have noone to recommend to:

So just to clarify, you are not going on your OWN particular tastes but what you think the person above you might like and not know
(i.e. if you post next, you recommend old and new to me.) It's a bit like the new music generator on Radio 1...
Say who you like so people can reccommend to you:
I like Mod, Indie, Indie Rock, New wave, Acid Jazz. Favourite five bands are; The Jam, Stereophonics, The Beautiful South, Blondie, Blur.
EdnaKrabappe 11-02-2008, 13:58 mm what a well liked thread... surely someone can reccomend me some band!

StarSparkle 11-02-2008, 14:09 I would suggest a band if I could think of one, Edna - but I honestly don't think I know of any bands that you don't already know! :)

Just think of one I don't like; you two are bound to love them! ;)
neeeeeeeeeek 11-02-2008, 14:13 If you want an old band the Porcupine Tree and his other project Blackfield. But Redroom are the future!
BasilRathbon 11-02-2008, 14:15 Didn't Redroom win the Grand National a few years back?
StarSparkle 11-02-2008, 14:23 Just think of one I don't like; you two are bound to love them! ;)

Thanks neeeeeeeeeek having a listen now. Although bobbins name, there are about another six red rooms on my space.
So tell us your taste so we can reccommend something to you.
:)
neeeeeeeeeek 11-02-2008, 14:39 It's the Sheffield RedRoom! if you can't find it PM me later and I shall send proper links.
Don't tell them the name is crap, they were going to be called the Ogretones for a while which makes Redroom sound like the best name in the world! I think they should be called DeathNun but people don't listen to me! They are supporting Thirst?? some signed London band who are getting quite a following.
I mostly listen to Porcupine Tree, Blackfield.... and other stuff!
Merry_Legs 11-02-2008, 15:01 I recommend Neeeek listens to Linton Kwesi Johnson (old) and erm Carla Bruni (newish folk).
neeeeeeeeeek 11-02-2008, 15:04 I have a Carla Bruni album, I shall listen to it!
OK, I recently bought Cherry Ghost's album which is brilliant. Errrr...Full of cold so brain not working but shall try think of other stuff!

Sid's dad 11-02-2008, 22:04 LOW
and
BEARSUIT
are both very musical treasures that will keep you happy for life.
Two very different bands, appealing to opposite states of mind.
BEARSUIT when you're bursting with life.
LOW when you are quietly joyous, or need soothing.
NEKRO138 12-02-2008, 11:23 Anyone who likes acoustic music or punk rock, try Chuck Ragan (he used to be in a band called Hot Water Music). I have recommended it before, but it's fantastic. The album is called Feast or Famine. www.myspace.com/chuckragan
He has quite a political songwriting style but doessn't let it get in the way of a good tune.
I would suggest Reigning Sound to you Edna. Can find them on myspace.
I like Mod, Indie, Indie Rock, New wave, Acid Jazz. Favourite five bands are; The Jam, Stereophonics, The Beautiful South, Blondie, Blur.
Current music I recommend to you: Les Savy Fav, they sound like the Arctic Monkeys crossed with Fugazi and the Hives, but in a good way.
Past music: The Lilac Time made great pop music for adults (Would you agree Basil?)
I like Indie, Rock, Jazz-Rock, Soul and World (Tropicalia, African pop/jazz, Indian)
Fav five are: Husker Du, Jeff Buckley, Afghan Whigs, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Can
Merry_Legs 14-02-2008, 10:07 Lilac Time were great - Return to yesterday and the Trains of Montparnass!
koenigsinger 14-02-2008, 10:14 From the past, I'd heartily recommend The The, some magical tunes and thought provoking words, all delivered with wit and style by Matt Johnson and assorted friends.
from the 'future'.... I hear that the Spires are exceptional, and a cert for very big things.
BasilRathbon 14-02-2008, 10:33 Lilac Time were great - Return to yesterday and the Trains of Montparnass!
Still going - in fact a couple of years ago they released an album called...er..."Keep Going"......
You may also be aware that while the Lilac Time remain as obscure as ever, Stephen Duffy earned himself a bit of cash by co-writing a few of Robbie Williams' more recent hits......
Some sample Lilac Time music here..... (http://www.thelilactime.com/listen.html)
