If you've got Office XP I seem to remember all the gubbins I needed was right there, haven't done it in a while, but of course you will need a good old-fashioned fax modem :D

**edit Actually, just remembered, if you have XP, you can add a fax as a printer as long as you have a modem that'll do it. Just click on the "add printer" bit & look for fax in the list...

There are web based services that allow you to receive faxes by email. I use one at http://www.fido.net/ it's free if you use it regularly.

Just to note... XP has a built in Fax software and driver but for some reason they chose to disable it...

If you go into START > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows Components

... and tick the "Fax services" box then hit "Next" that will install a basic fax service that allows you to "print" to the fax from word, etc... and you can set it to receive faxes on your modem line.

Of course you do need:
- a fax capable modem (most phone modems are)
- connection to your phone line

There are also email to fax services out there as well on the web if you search...

Hope that helps :)
