View Full Version : Who's the most famous person you've ever seen at a petrol station?
BasilRathbon 30-01-2008, 12:48 Last last year I saw Tv presenter Harry Gration filling up his car at the petrol station on Bramall Lane by the United ground. I was behind him in the queue and noticed he bought a Sheffield Star, a Ginsters Pasty and some Extra Strong Mints as well as the petrol.
Have you ever seen anyone famous at a petrol station? Did they buy anything interesting? Did you get the chance to say anything to them? I'm itching to know.....

Ah, what you didin;t realise is that, following his fall from grace at the UN, he actually now works for Golden Wonder as a pot noodle distributor. He's been trying to introduce a new "Boutros Boutros Garlic" flavour pot noodle but with little success, so he's having to do the distribution job just to make ends meet.

Well I'm a mate of Daniel's and he told me his hit "Gotta Get Through This" was inspired by his ordeal when he was pestered at petrol station while trying to buy a snack. Apparently he still has flashbacks to the experience.....

I once sold Harry Gration a printer when I was working at Office World in Southampton and he was presenting South Today for BBC South. Must have been about 1995.
The most famous person I have ever seen at a petrol station though is Sheffield's finest boxer and crazy driver Prince Naseem. At the old BP garage down on savile street which has now closed down, before he went to prison. Didn't speak to him though as he looked to be in a bit of a bad mood.
Annetteb1978 30-01-2008, 15:18 Mike Reid a few years ago..
Jabberwocky 30-01-2008, 15:26 Rolf Harris in Leicester back in 2003. I bet the swine used unleaded.
frostiekazza 30-01-2008, 15:38 I used to work in a petrol station years ago on Abbeydale Road and we had quite a few famous people in there .
I met Nasseem Hamed or whatever his name is , he was a right arrogant so-n-so , then a few days later his brother came in , and he was really lovely , we always had a chat when he came in . He filled his car up with petrol one day , came in to pay but realised he'd left his credit card at home he was sooo embarrased and said he'd go straight home for his card and left me his gold mobile phone as security . I bet i could have got some right phone numbers out of that phone if i wasnt such an honest , sweet , little thing :D .
Emlyn Hughes came in a few times as well .
Hubby met Naz once as well but didnt even know who he was , he came out to the ice cream van bought 4 double cornets with everything on and when Paul told him the price , Naz looked at him in disbelief and said ' do you know who i am ' and Paul just said i dont care who you are that'll be 6 quid ( or whatever it was ) , Naz hadnt fetched any money out with him cos he was so sure the 'starstruck ice cream man ' would give them him for free  . He had to shout for his mate to fetch some money out and just threw a tenner on the counter and walked off :hihi:.
The next bloke in the queue said 'you really dont know who that was do you ? ' then he told Paul who it was and burst out laughing saying 'its about time someone brought him down a peg or two ' :hihi: .

JarvisCocker 30-01-2008, 15:44 Quite a few years ago I once stopped to fill up my car at the Shell garage at the bottom of St Philips Rd, it was quite late as I was on my way home from a friends. There was a big stretch black limo in the forecourt at the same time as I was there. When I'd filled up and went across to pay the man behind the desk said "oh don't worry, Tom Jones just paid for your petrol!" I thought he was kidding, but he said no don't worry it's all paid for. Never knew if it was Tom or not but I did check, and he was on at the Arena that night!
frostiekazza 30-01-2008, 15:53 My dad met the athlete Daley Thompson at the petrol station on Frechville years ago .

That may sound like an odd gesture, but from what I've read of Tom Jones, it's not unusual.
