HI, Im currently emailing from work.
The problem ins that at home Im with Bt Broadband and the modem shows that Im connected to the net. The thing is when I click on the internet icon it says "Page cannot be displayed, cannot connect to server".
I rang BT up and they say everytihing is correct on their side. They then tell me to ring Microsoft. Ring up Microsoft and they don't know they ar*e from their elbows.
Any help would br appreciated.

Armani
Go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disc Cleanup and run that program. Delete all temporary internet files and History files. It could be that your cache is just clogged up.

If that doesn't work, click on File on your Internet Explorer and see if there is a tick next to Work Offline. If there is, click on it and it should restore your internet pages.
Good luck
Are you running Service Pack 1? took me ages to figure out the lack of that was why t'internet wasn't working.
Thank you for your help, but none of these seemed to have solved it.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
can u give us anymore details?
is it just the webbrowser that doesnt find the internet or is it all internet capable programs?
what type of modem is it and how is it connected?
do u have any firewall software on ur pc?
did this problem just occure or have u never been able to view webpages since u signed up with bt?
as much info as u can..
Dont bother with bt help lines unless u need a techie to come round or a new modem, i found that out the hard way.
Your computer could think that you are still on narrowband.
I would suggest making sure that your BT Broadband connection is the default one in internet explorer.
To do this:
> Open Internet Explorer
> Go to tolls, then choose internet options
> Click on the connections tab
> Highlight the connection "BT Broadband", then click on "set default" - if this is already grey'd out then dont worry, it means that it is already the default connection.
> Underneath you should see three options:
1) Never Dial a connection
2) Dial whenever a network connection is not present
3) Always dial my default connection
Make suer the dot is in "Always dial my default connection" - if it is already there then put it in another box, and click apply, then move it back to "Always dial my default connection" and then click apply again.
Hopefully this should jog IE's memeory that you do actually want to get on the internet.
Let me know if this helps??

This also happens when bt broadband is not working I think. It happened to me a few days ago for several hours and then started working again for no reason (and I saw this on two separate computers and it didnt start working after I changed any settings so it wasnt my computers - it was almost certainly bt...).
Thank you all for your help, I ended up doing a system restore which seems to have sorted it out.
Thanks again
