I was listening radio Sheff this morning on the way to work and the topic was something like 'what do you miss from when you were young'. Got me thinking!

I think mine would be Monster Munch when each crisp was the size of your hand!, Wagon Wheels, and the McDonalds on the moor before it got taken over by chavs!

Oh, and Uncle Arthurs!

Just for fun, thought it might be interesting on this bleak Tuesday morn!
:hihi:

Decent summers (1975, 1976, 1984, 1989, 1990, 1995)
Decent snowy winters (especially Christmas/New Year 1977)
Three TV channels but usually something worth watching
Waggon Wheels and chocolate sauce at school
Cresta 'It's Frothy Man' fizzy drinks
Original Recipe Kentucky Fried Chicken with spare ribs that left you looking like you'd just machetted your granny and left the blood and gore on your hands (and lips!!)
The Moor when it was a decent parade of shops - and traffic
Blue and White buses with cheap fayres and pleasant conductors (and inspectors!)
Open air swimming pool next to the Rising Sun on the Hathersage/Castleton Road
Tenant's Extra/Newquay Steam Beer/Lowenbrau beer on tap (getting on a bit now)
Those little greasy pizza bite crisp things you could get in pubs
Innocence and the freedom to roam until it went dark and you always knew it was time to go home
Dairy Milk - but as a little chocolate bar with all the separate flavours joined together

I miss going to spend the school holidays with my grandparents who lived in Sandy Cove, on the coast 1 mile from Rhyl. They lived 20 yards from the beach and the main Holyhead railway line was at the end of the road. I could hunt for crabs on the beach, leave a baited line out to catch fish when the tide came in overnight and go train spotting when I felt like it. I also adored the amusement arcades and Rhyl is full of them. The last holiday was August 1959. I was young and had no worries. A lot has happened since then, some of the things have changed our way of life for the worse.

I miss being able to play out from morning until night without my Mum & Dad worrying whether I'd been murdered or abused by some paedophile.

Kids just can't do that these days and its sad!

I knew some sharp individual would post that response, well done you.

Seriously though, it is a sad place we live in these days.

Totally agree Leg-end.

However, a couple of weeks ago Panorama showed how easy it was for paedos to get in touch with youngsters on-line. Maybe they're all sat at home on their computers and not roaming the streets?

But like I said, I agree. I've two daughters aged 8 and 5 and I daren't let them out of my sight when they're playing outside. When we were that age (seven, eight etc) we'd be all over the place having fun. We didn't worry and my parents didn't seem to.

It's sad.

There were always quite a lot I can remember it being a bit off putting when you nearly swallowed one while swimming.

But I had great times in there its a pity todays kids dont have these facilities.

Totally agree about the hole in the road , the fishtank was a great focal meeting point.I once agreed to meet my boyfriend there but forgot to inform him I had undergone a makeover ( had been watching grease again ), he expected someone with curly shoulder length auburn hair that wore flat shoes and dark colours. The girl that met him had short straight blonde hair high heeled red winklepickers and a white boiler suite on. He walked straight past me
