You could try Carboots, Jumble Sales, Auctions, evenings or clairvoyants, Pamperdays, Raffles just to name a few. Good luck with what ever you do and I hope you make loads for the pooches.;)

I would love to help, wouldn't mind being involved in a sponsored dog walk and i also don't mind shaking a tin with dogs in tow.

You do so much to help other charities pets@home that you put to many of us to shame. I have trouble organising things due to work commitments and the few bit i do already but if i am free/not working i am happy to be involved in things x

I am in the process of organising a street collection in Sheffield probably Fargate for SDR. If you would like to help on the day shaking a tin Pets@home that would be great. As for ideas on fundraising I think sponsored dog walks are a great idea, we have done loads for Thornberry over the years and also SDR. Fun dog shows are a good idea but take a lot of work and prizes and rosettes and judges need organising. Pub quizes or online quizes, phot comps on forums such as this are a good idea, people can donate to a paypal address for your chosen charity with the entry fee.

Good luck and keep up the good work.

bless you helen & everyone that has responded , but can we keep offers of help coming ,maybe organize something yourselfs in your area then donate to rainrescue , i know that all that will be reading this will be already proberly doing something but unfortunatly we need to do more please ,one of the recues i collect for is really struggling and has 200 dogs on books at minuite ,having to pay boarding kennels for a lot of the dogs so its quite a drain on resources ,and this is just one example i think i would cry if i knew how many dogs needed our help . i really respect everyones help no matter how small or large . but now we are getting the ball rolling lets keep it going .theres no better feeling that some dogs will get the better life they deserve with our help . im so proud of all the caring people in south yorkshire. sorry but this means alot to me

well that is why i thought derwent as there is the bike road trail, the only issue would be for some people getting there.

I think a sponsered dog walk is a great idea, and would help in any way I could:)

As for sponsering maybe you could ask people to sponser you just for completing the walk, not by the mile of anything? And maybe charge a small "entry" fee? So everyone who does the walk pays a small charge for taking part? I'm sure no-one would mind! I wouldnt anyway:D

Let me know if theres anything I can help out with.

I'm putting my thinking cap on to come up with other ideas, it may take a while to get my brain into gear:hihi:

I have absolutely no idea how to go about organising anything like this, but I'm willing to come and try and be a help if I can, I'll probably just be a pain in the arse in the way, but at least I'd be trying:hihi:

Sponsored walk is a FAB idea! I would be pleased to help in any way I can.

We need to think BIG though - every year Royal Bank of Scotland organise a sponsored walk around the peaks and they raise tens of thousands of pounds for St. Luke's Hospice. I think because they are able to put money into organising it, it pays off tenfold.
-They send invitations out to local businesses - this means that many companies do a 'corporate donation' then a whole group of employees come together. I think this encourages more people to come because they are not daunted by each person having to bother collecting small donations from all over the place.
-They do food & refreshments along the way (and make this obvious on the invitation) - Bacon sarnies at the start, Pimms/G&T, crisps & choc half way & a buffet at the end. This may take some organising but well worth it because it attracts many more people coming for a 'fun day out'.

I have lots of ideas about how we could do this - maybe persuade a local mobile catering van to come along for the publicity?

I would be able to design advertising posters, invitations, sponsor forms etc.

My only worry is - St.Lukes is a big famous local charity thats very 'PC' for companies to donate to - we would have to define exactly where and how the money was going in this case...

Yep sure I would love to help!
Things are quite hectic at work at the moment but I'll do what I can :)
Some things to think about...
We need:
A route - maybe we should ask the walking group?
A date! (when the weather is a bit nicer?)
To organise refreshments & catering - perhaps we could do a forum thread to kick this off.
An official charity for the money to go to.
Literature about where the money is going / how it will help

any more....?

Things like Risk assessment and possibly some type of insurance/public liability could be involved with this kind of event Katy, i don't know the legal standing but imagine if you go this big it encompasses all these types of things. Not putting you off but something to research or speak to the council/CAB? maybe. I am happy to help though with organising but like others could not possibly manage to do on my own nor would i know where to begin. Think the aim was to look at raising money for Rain at the start of the thread so would need to speak with the Rain admin and discuss the idea and whether it is something they feel is feasible after all could potentially be there reputation if things went wrong. Sorry not trying to be pessimistic but realistic.

Gemima we are there with ya, hairy ones in tow if wanted or can borrow a SDR dog and advertise lol x

Hi guys - this is a good thread to see - and not only will it raise money - but it will also raise the profile of Sheffield Stray and Homeless Dogs.

Rain Rescue is a voluntary group - but i also run a charity called Summerfields - Life Skills through Pet Care. Objects are the same - it just helps people who need help with their pets, or people who benefit from pets too. Rain and Summerfields work together and so whilst Rain Rescue has the name that everyone knows - we can raise and donate money to Summerfields and 'earmark' it to be for pets from Sheffield. Maybe have a seperate fund.

It would be great if we had some money on one side that if the dogs need vet treatment - we could pay for it. We have just taken 2 dogs out from the Sheffield pound. Both of them are VERY ill.

Little Black Magic - the scared nervous one curled up in the basket that never moved? Undergone an emergency operation today. Been on a drip for 3 days. Prostrate problems and had to castrate, had a tumour removed and 3 teeth which had all got absesses under them (1 of which had burst and was infected). God knows how much his bill will be. Rain has got this bill to pick up and we are dreading it, but we couldn't let him just be put to sleep - he is so sweet and friendly and has bags of love to give to someone.

Little Patch - the lovely collie type who was in with the red coat on? Again - emergency vets when he came out - been in and out of vet ever since. Cant find out whats wrong with him and so tests and tablets galore. Halfway Home are footing the bill for Patch thank goodness.

So, these are the guys that we are raising money for. Many dogs come out of the stray kennels with absolutely NO HEALTH PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER - but just the odd few - do need the vet.

In addition, something like OSCAR that could be at the threat of being destroyed as he has been there so long, we could fund for boarding for him to save his life until the right home came along.

So, well done you guys - I am USELESS at organising things like this - (anyone who knows me would just laugh if i said i was doing it), but I am right behind anyone who can take them on and organise it to the end - i am sure we would get some great support and awareness. Thank you everyone

hi everyone would it be a good idea ,now we have got lots of interest, to organise things for example if we could agree on a place and time to meet so as to start and put things together ? & so as we can work out who can do what and when and get it all put down in writing we dont want to be running around like headless chichens lol. Where would be a good central place for a meet? .what you guys think are we going to put sheffield on the map for caring people ?

I forgot to also add that Summerfields does have insurance for organising events and 3rd party liability for volunteers so we are covered on that one for organising events such as this.

Personally never organised anything like this, but I know Gemima and her sister have and so maybe she can shed light on how to go about doing them - if we need permission from the council to organise or anything?

Adz
30-01-2008, 21:34
I wonder if we could advertise on the main forum for advice from an events organiser or co-ordinator or someone who knows the ins and outs of this type of thing.

As a few folks on here know I have been providing web hosting for any non-profit that asks for it. :)

That offer - along with a basic site - still holds for anyone who needs it. Drop me a PM or a mail.

I've got some experience with fund raising and grant applications, but at the moment I'm waiting for my health to catch up a little before I take more on. :)

I am currently in my 1st year at Hallam Uni studying Events Management. Its all new, but would look excellent on my cv.

I'm sure with the help of others a few of us could organise a successful event :)

Just a thought, but how about a sponsored take your dog to work day. You're pooch gets to go to work with you, be fussed and pampered by your colleagues and you have a collection or sponsorship there?

Adz
31-01-2008, 10:37
Good idea fox20thc anyone fancy this idea?

As far as sponsorship for things go there is this site http://www.justgiving.com/ so friends work colleagues would pledge this way and the site automatically reclaims the tax eligible for donations so more ends up being given to the rescue/charity.

Adz
31-01-2008, 10:38

i have just been given a few ideas if we can manage to arrange a fun day.
aswell as stalls that sell cakes and raffles and games,
how about a dog show too like best couple, cutest pup, dog fancy dress that kind of thing.
also have like a dog wash instead of a car wash?
im sure there are businesses that would donate prizes and stuff its just a case of getting our heads together and coming up with a plan.

Right i want to organise a sponsored walk for Oscar and Rain rescue. I hope noone objects to me just going for it, but i have a special place for this little dog and i want to do everything i can to help him and Rain.

I have sent Gemima a pm asking if there are special things i need to arrange or how i go about doing this as i have never done one before and she has. When i have a reply i shall feedback.

As anna293 suggested Rother valley is nice and dog friendly, very flat and not to far to walk around the edge, nice wide paths and a cafe for refreshments. It is relatively easy to get to also, even public transport serve it via the 28 bus route. Although if anyone can think of somewhere better go for it and let us know so we can consider it.

We could use the just giving sponsorship forms as a way of getting the money to Rain rescue and Oscar should he need it. It would also be nice to meet everyone and we could also talk about future events we may like to organise.

If you are interested please let me know via this thread and i will get cracking with getting this sorted. If noone is interested i shall go it alone and try and drag some friends and people from work along.

Thanks guys
Helen

Oh Thanks ADZ - you are a really good star

I have told them today that we will board him if he gets at risk. Its £6.00 per day in boarding, and staffys are often in for a long time. This guy has been in kennels for 3 months with no interest at all. So its a long haul - but i do feel he is worth it.

thank you

Well a weeks board is £42 i am sure alot of us could raise that amount through sponsorship if we really put our minds to it, and that would keep Oscar going for a bit should he need to come to you. I would like to pledge to pay for a week for him out of my own pocket and add my sponsorship money to it.

If the little boy does get his wonderful forever home that money could then be used to help another dog that needs your help still incredibly worthwhile!!!

Rainrescue
01-02-2008, 00:48
what school did you go to then?
the week's boarding in kennels is £42 - but i agree - i am sure we can seperately raise it and maybe we could get 1 kennel sponsored by interested fundraisers?

I don't have a dog to bring along, nor can I afford to donate financially, but if anyone thinks it may be of interest....

I am happy to come along to try and get nice pics of the pooches... proceeds from print sales I can then donate to the cause.

So the question is - would people on such a walk be interested in that (piccies of pooches)?

so does this need a 'get round the table' meeting?

where did the ents management student get to?

if Adz is doing the sponsored walk, perhaps a dog show arranged for the better weather would be a good thing for a student group to go at as it'll probably take more organising

I am going to get some dates together at the weekend.

I have been trying to guage interest this week and have been pestering people at work to find out who is interested, as i don't really know that many people with not being native to sheffield.

I think as a few people on here have now expressed an interest (thanks guys) i will get some dates and maybe do a poll on when to hold the walk to try and get maximum amount of people.

I have not forgotten though and this will get organised, i have also been having trouble with my internet so if i don't get back onto the the thread that is why not because i have lost interest.

Again thanks to people who have shown there support i will get back to you asap xxxx
